When Baxter had his obstruction, he was on a boiled chicken and rice diet for 10 days. The emergency vet gave us some great advice, instead of boiling chicken you can buy canned chicken. You don't need to heat it up or anything. It's a bit more expensive, I think, but oh so convenient :)

Give Owen hugs from us, I am so glad to hear he is on the mend!

Wouldn't the canned chicken be high in sodium?

Owen is still improving!

We picked him up at the vets with a red blood cell count of 23, and on Saturday when we had is checked again he had jumped up to 28!!!! He jumped 5 in two days (the most he had done at the vets was 1.3 in a day).

We are going back in today for another count (I will post with those results later).

Once he gets his count back to normal (35-55), we will start to look into the heart. The murmur that we are hearing could be a result of the anemia...

His energy is definately increasing. You can tell he wants to play, and when he does he tires very easily. His energy and weight will slowly come back I'm sure.

We still don't know what is causing/caused the anemia. All we know is that it's a bacteria of some sort because the Penecillin is taking care of it.

Owen is eating more and more each day. He will eat the beef liver, beef cubes, canned food, rice, yogurt, pumpkin, and treats! I just keep offering him new foods each day and see what he wants! He has always been a picky eater, so I'm not surprised to see him like this if he's noe feeling well!

Hubby and I were a little shocked at the bill ($900.00+), but you can't put a price tag on love!

Thank you all again for your support. I really can't tell you how much is meant and still means to me. It helped so much in the hard times to go back and re-read the support from you all.

Not so good news :(

We just got back from the vets and his red blood cell count has dropped back down to 18. He dropped 10 in two days (since Saturday AM). His temp remains normal and he is eating still...

He got a shot of new red blood cells and a shot of steriods too. We will re-test again tomorrow to see how/if things have progressed.

We also took blood to test his liver enymes again.

It is such a roller coaster of emotions :( We have highs and lows, sometimes in the same day...

His energy seems OK - not as bad as it was when he was 18 about a week ago...

One day at a time with him.

I will post again tomorrow with the results.

NO!

Poor Owen. What could it be? I'm so sorry Kysha. I'm sure that it's just a temporary dip and his RBC's will come back to normal soon. It's a good sign that he's still eating and has a normal temperature!
