I'm so glad he's improving! Eating and a normal temperature! That's wonderful!

Yay Owen! Keep it up and you'll be home soon!

Owen is HOME!!!!

Owen came home this afternoon (about an hour ago). His temperature has been normal for the past few days, and his blood count is till rising!

His blood count is now at 23.3%, up from 18% on Monday. The normal range is 35-55. We still have a ways to go but we are taking baby steps.

Owen is eating very well. He will only eat canned wet food and freeze dried liver treats. I have offered him his regular BARF, and even the pre-made BARF but he turns his nose up at it. I will go and buy a small bag of kibble tonight and see if he will eat that at least. He won't even eat beef (hamburger) that he usually LOVES. At this point I am not too concered what he is eating as long as he is eating something.

He is on antibiotics three times a day as that seems to be what's working at this point.

We will get the results from the Lepto on Saturday morning (hopefully). If it's not Lepto then we might have to do a bone marrow aspiration to find the cause of low red blood cells.

We are making progress - slowly. It is GREAT to have him home with me.

Thanks again to everyone for their support.

We are going back to the vets on Saturday to test his blood again for the amount of red bloods cells. As long as Owen contunued to eat, drink, and the red blood cells go up he can stay at home!

Kysha I am so glad to hear he is home and feeling better! About the eating have you tried chicken?? When Caesar is being finiky from his chemo he will always eat cooked bland chicken he will snub everything else including ground beef. You might want to give it a try. Yay!!!!

Great news! I am so happy to hear that Owen is home. Give him a hug from us. We'll keep sending vibes until that red count reaches normal. Keep us posted as you are able :) Canned food is better than the dry kibble so if he's eating that, I say keep giving it to him.

YES! I'm glad to hear that Owen is home where he belongs. Indy and Ava send bunches of Boxer healing vibes to him. I hope that he's on the road to a full recovery and will soon be his normal bouncy self.

Just having him home is good for him, and it has to make you feel a lot better too.

Way to go Owen. Keep it up.

Owen is eating like a maniac! So far he will still only eat his wet canned food and freeze dried liver treats.

I am going to cook up some rice (he LOVES rice) and boil some chicken too (thanks matilda8255 for that suggestion). At this time I am happy that he is eating and am not going to worry what he is eating! He will still eat his multi-vitamin too!

Tegan was happy to see him and Owen was happy to see her - but not as full of kidney beans as I thought. I think she knows he's sick and toned it down a bit. They cuddled and sniffed each other all night.

Hubby and I left for about half an hour to get dinner last night and when we came home Owen greeted us at the door with a toy in his mouth (he hasn't done this for a couple weeks). I know that he must be feeling better.

We still have a long road ahead of us, but we will take one day at a time and work through this together.

It feels like a ton of bricks have been lifted from our shoulders. It is so nice to type this and know/see exactly where Owen is - sleeping at my feet!

Thanks again you guys - you have really helped me get through this.

Kysha

PS - I will post another update when we get the test back on Saturday.

Kysha what great news!!! appicon

I am glad to hear that Owen is doing well and I am sure that he is super happy to be home. You can cook the rice in chic broth or add a bouillion to it for flavor. You can also give some oatmeal for variety, its bland too. I throw in a bouillion cube when I make that as well. :D
