The good news... and the bad news....

Hello again, and once again, thank you SO much for your beautiful words and kind thoughts and prayers - this really has made all the difference to us!

We have just come back from our big walk in the country so it's business as usual for us all. They had a great time in the woods and Bob has regained so much sight in just a week of the tablets it's amazing - he's chasing after his ball and is following things again. At first, we didn't want to get our hopes up, but he's definitely regained a great deal and we're thrilled with his progress! Of course, the one being who has been completely unaffected by this, is Bob...... He's been absolutely fine and we had a lovely Christmas with lots of treats and long walks.

We've had the full diagnosis now and it's been confirmed as Lymphoma. He starts his chemo asap and will have to have that kicked off by daily/evening injections and then additional tablets. The vet has given his chances as 'reasonable recovery' ( whatever that means!) but also said he has 'more than 50%' of getting better. Of course, this doesn't mean it won't come back, but for the minute, we have some hope that he'll kill off this bout of nasty bacteria and disease. In just a week he's got better with his eyesight, so we hope and pray that he keeps on the good progress and we have lots more fun with him ahead.

In the meantime, lots of love and care and he's going to have the treatment asap!
I'll post some photos on here so you can see him for yourself as I've only got Jack as a puppy and they've grown into such handsome boys now
We're feeling a lot more positive in that he can see so much more now and we at least know the path we have to take. Together, we'll get there !

Sending lots of wiggles and love to you all, you've made such a difference xxxxx

Thinking of you and Bobby today. Your last post sounds very encouraging and positive and I'm happy to hear your family had a great Christmas! :) Continuing to send lots of healing vibes to your boy, and keep you all in my prayers. I hope he will do well with the treatment, and that you will keep us posted.

Eating me out of house and home....

Well, it seems that I misunderstood the vets diagnosis (probably wasn't taking much in was worried so much given the words 'chemotheraphy' ) and Bobby's problem was EITHER Lymphoma or GME and it's only when I've read the final diagnosis a couple of weeks ago that it said this. He has the non-infectious type, and the vets are absolutely thrilled with his progress.... not least us! We still don't know what the long-term outlook is but we have to keep strong and keep positive.

Bobby starts his second round of chemo on Monday morning. He has been the bravest boy in the world and is doing so well! He's also on high doses of Pred, so he's peeing constantly ( and not knowing he's doing it, he won't even cock his leg sometimes, poor little thing ).

The only problem we've had his his INSANE hunger. I've never seen anything like it. Before he was such a gentle boy with his treats and so patient. But he's grabbing and snatching food. He's eating his dinner in about two mouthfuls and we've resorted to cutting things up more and feeding him in sections so at least he's not gulping it down in whole. Once he has eaten his dinner he's literally barging Jack out of the way to get at his..... So we have to feed them separately now. Every time we open fridge door, he's there, expecting food. He's hoovering the floor for any crumbs and if anyone came in they would think we hadn't fed him in weeks.

Vet advises this is a completely normal side effect of his tablets but just wondering if anyone had any other experience of this and if there's anything that can calm down his appetite.... other than feeding him more which isn't an option as I don't think he'd be satisifed with anything! Just two things that have happened.....

Last week, I left my other half's steak out on the side in preparation for dinner and then popped into the other room. When I came back in, the steak was gone with a VERY guilty looking boxer dog hiding in his basket....

Today, I came downstairs to find he'd pulled the bin over to search food. He's never done ANYTHING like this in his life (both steal food from the counter or pull the bin over!) too and there was litter all over the kitchen. HIs face was a picture and I had to laugh out loud in shock. So naughty, but he really really can't help himself... I found a few scraps in his basket and luckily there was nothing toxic in there but we'll have to now make sure we remove everything from the kitchen. Don't think he's clever enough to open the fridge, but given his latest antics we are not taking any chances!

Thanking you again for your lovely kind words xxxx

I'm so glad things are improving for him! Poor guy, his tummy is in control now! The steak story made me laugh out loud because I know that guilty boxer "counter surfing" look. I hope he continues to progress as well as he has and, although he does naughty things, at least you know he feels good enough to do them. :)

Good to hear that Bobby is improving and that you are able to laugh at his antics. In terms of food - could you try giving him veggies - presumably they won't add too many pounds. Perhaps something that he can chew - like celery or carrots. Celery has a lot of water though - so he may pee even more! Please continue to let us know how he is doing.

Continuing to send lots of healing and positive vibes to Bobby. It's wonderful to hear he is doing well with the chemo. Sorry he is having such a time with prednisone side effects. :( Poor guy! And it's hard on you too. Had to smile at the steak episode visual though :) - that guilty look is priceless. I hope Bobby continues to make strides....we're rooting for him. Please keep us posted on your sweet boy.

I am so sorry missed this thread but I just caught myself up on it and am so glad that your boy is doing better and acting more like hiself. Bless his tummy though. I agree with another poster that said maybe you could try veggies so he wont gain to much. I dont blame him for stealing a good steak, what a treat! I hope he continues to feel better.
