Inflammatory disease on brain/loss of eyesight

Hello there, I’ve not been on here a while and I’m sad that I have to now come on here and am desperate for any words of wisdom

I have two beautiful boys, three and half, and on Friday afternoon Bobby started looking very odd and he was missing his ball on his walk – he’s ‘bally’ mad usually and never ever takes his eye off the ball ( so to speak!) but something was wrong. By evening he was staring into space and looking not himself at all. His leg was also ‘poorly’, he kept limping on it so we weren’t sure if the two were connected so I do as I always do and got him straight to vet.

She said his eyesight was fine but then prescribed some anti-inflammatories for his little leg and said come back on Monday

We took him for his check up yesterday and the vet re-examined him and said his eyesight had deteriorated and he’d gone partially blind/lost some vision and made urgent appointment with the specialist

He’s been there today and they’ve diagnosed that it’s coming from the optic nerve, and he’s got swelling/pressure on his brain of which they don’t know the cause and they’ve done some blood tests to find out. We’ve also booked him in for the MRI Scan under vet’s instruction for next Monday but it seems like a lifetime to wait and I’m just wondering if anyone has had any experience of ‘inflammatory disease’ and what I can expect – there are a lot of horror stories on the internet and the specialist has been absolutely brilliant in explaining things, but I can’t take anything in at the moment and don’t know what to think.

It breaks my heart that he cant see 100% at the moment and while he’s not in any pain I don’t know how I’m going to cope if it’s diagnosed as tumour or anything else. He;s an amazing little fella and I can’t bear to think about it being life-threatening. I know there’s no use in worrying about it until we get the confirmation but I can’t help being so sad for him and just want him chasing after his bally like he usually does and being well.

He’s getting much love from everyone and his brother is also looking after him well so I'm comforted he's in the best hands, but it is really upsetting

Anything anyone can offer would be so much appreciated
Thanks

Jack and Bob’s worried mummy xxxx

I wish I had words of wisdom. Any words to take this worry from you. But all I have to offer is my love and prayer for your baby. I hope they find the problem and bring him back to his bally chasing self. Bless your family and especially Bobby.

Sorry, I have re-read this and in my state I realised it didn't make much sense when I put 'take him to the vet like I always do'... what I meant is whenever him or Jack have an ailment or accident I will always go straight for the professional advice. They've both been in good health other than a bout of Kennel Cough last November. Jack is very accident prone but none of them suffer from any 'conditions' or reoccuring problems, touch wood, so this is the first time we've had anything potentially serious to deal with xxxx

Wish I had advice but only can send thoughts and prayers for a good outcome for your boy. I do know how awful it is to see them unwell. We are sending gentle boxer wiggles to your Bobby

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind words - what a lovely bunch you all are!
Bobby is wondering what all the fuss is about and other than his loss of sight there's no real difference in 'himself'.

We will get the results tomorrow and your thoughts and healing vibes ( and Boxer wiggles!) have made a HUGE difference to how we're all feeling so thanks again

Thank you again for all your words, just coming on here has given me so much comfort during this worrying time so thank you so much.

We've today had the blood test results and it shows no sign of disease or any other infection, virus which could cause the swelling of the brain pushing on his optic nerve so our only option now to find out for definite is the MRI scan on Monday. He's booked in for 11:45am and we'l know pretty much straight away what has caused his loss of sight

Yesterday he was absolutely fine, he was his usual self - i.e, straight up into the kitchen as soon as he heard the fridge door go, pestering us for sausages, and all sorts. He was also playing happily with Jack and annoying him like he usually does, so we know he was fine! It's only his walks we've noticed anything different, like he's bumped into trees and into a couple of walls. Heartbreaking to see when only this time last week he was fine and running around like a crazy loon.

The vet today has told us to keep calm and I know we need to - the MRI scan will identify it and then we can look at how we get our lovely baby better again. As hard as it may be, if he has lost his eyesight for good I can cope with that as we can adjust and give him all the special care he needs, but if it's anything more serious that I can't help and take away, that's the worst thing to think about

All I want for Christmas is for the all-clear. Thank you again for your support and thoughts, and will let you know how he is on Monday. Wishing all the healing vibes and good health to him xxx
