You are so right. There is no replacements for our boys and they will never be forgotten. We have so much love to give other ones so we have a mission to share it with new ones. I believe that God knows what we need and have put these dogs in our paths. This foster boy does not compare to Jake's beauty nor does he provide the look of love that Jake gave. He does want to be loved and he just melts in my arms soaking up the loving that he has missed in his life. Every night he has to sleep with me and he ends up with his paw where it looks like he is hugging me or just lays his head on my neck. He is really pushing his way into my heart.
He starts his heart worm treatments next week. I hope he does well with them.
They are really hard on them. Hopefully he will survive it.
I know you are counting the days until you have your precious girl with you.
Have a good weekend.
boxermomof4, I just checked this thread for the first time since I last posted to you. You're timing is impecable. My father suffered a severe stroke that very same morning (the 5th) and I have had limited time to check my computer. I believe that just as there is a Rainbow Bridge where our beloved pets wait, you are so right that God knows just what we need, and exactly when we need it. My dad has survived the stroke but is someone that we don't even know. I moved back to their home 10 mos. ago to care for them as he already had Alzheimer's. I asked the neurologist yesterday whether bringing in a new puppy would be hard on him in the condition he is in now and he told me that he thought that by then, that would be "great medicine" for my dad! Not to mention selfishly, for me too. It's so good that the foster is soaking up the love you have to give him. What an opportunity!!!! I'm excited for you. I know that he's not Jake, but he is I believe heaven sent.
Be well and best wishes as you continue your journey. Today marks 3 months since my Shaky Jake went to the bridge. Godspeed precious Jakes!!! Both of you!
Also, I'll be praying for the foster and you as he starts his treatments! Best wishes!
I am so sorry to hear about your father. God does have perfect timing in all things. Maybe not in the timing we want, but he knows best. He knew it was time to take your little Jake home and that you would need time for your dad. Also that a new little puppy would be a welcome guest to help him through a difficult time. Your little girl will definitely be great medicine for you. She will help fill the void of Jake and also to help relieve the stress that you are under with being a full time caregiver.
I know it is a sad day for you since it marks 3 months since your precious boy went to the Bridge. The 5th was one month for my Jake. Seems like forever since I have patted his sweet head.
I appreciate your prayers for my foster boy as he starts his treatments on Monday.
I talked to the rescue lady today to see if I would be given first chance to adopt him. I assumed I would, but it was nothing that had been put into words.
That was another God thing. The rescue lady knew I had lost Jake. I think she knew when she called to tell me about this boy that I wouldn't be able to resist wanting to commit to him a lifetime of love. I needed him to help me through the loss of Jake as much as he needed me.
You hang in there and I hope all goes well with your dad.
Hugs And Prayers
boxermomof4,
So sorry I just had the chance to catch up with your post. Recent events with my dad have turned my world quite upside down. Is Frisco the foster we've been talking about? Did he start the treatments last Monday? How is he so far? When will you know for sure about the possibility of adopting? Do you have to wait to see how his treatments go? Sorry, lots of questions, just very excited for you and prayerful that all is going well with his treatment regimen.![]()
My dad is at home with us now receiving OT/PT/ and Speech therpies through the rehab hospital I work for in Lexington. He's someone so different than I could have imagined. I see it in my job on a daily basis, but it's different when it is your own parent. He requires 24 hour supervision and that has us stretched tight!I had already chosen a name for the precious girl we are about to receive late January, but have changed my mind. We (mom and I) as Dad now wants no part of a new dog, have decided to name her Grace. She is truly going to be God's saving Grace for me, hopefully for Dad too eventually.
I'm still praying for you and the upcoming holiday season without Jake. I don't know about you, but I cry still quite often when I think of Christmas without him. Wishing you well Jake's mom!
Ann
I am so sorry that your world has been so upset with the health of your dad. It has to be terrible when someone you love becomes so different and there is nothing you can do to change it. I am glad that you have worked around patients like this so you know what to expect and what can be done for him.
I like the name of Grace. So sweet. Maybe your Dad will be more excited when she arrives. We can hope for that.
Yes, Frisco is the rescue. The name did not seem to fit him so we are calling him Sawyer. My husband called him Brownie a lot anyway so he is Sawyer Brown. (All our dogs have a second name.) No one knows what his name really was. He did started the first segment of his treatments last Monday. That was the easy part, although I didn't know it was going to be easy. They have told me tomorrow's injection will be bad. I sure hope he does ok. I am not sure what to expect other than they say he will have lots of muscle pain and will be sent home with meds for it. He is not Jake, but he does have a loving personality like Jake. He will not be available for adoption until he finishes his treatments. I have been told I will have first chance to adopt him since he is already use to my home and has fit in so well. I couldn't bare to part with him. He needs a lot of love to make up for all the bad things that have been in his life and we are definitely giving him that.
I have also thought about Christmas without Jake, but it can't be any harder than the other days, I don't think. I am dealing with things better, but I think it is because I have this sick guy to try to help. I know I did all I could for Jake and I will also do it for this one. I am like you, there are days that I seem to really grieve more. It sure seems like more than 6 wks since I saw his sweet face. Feels more like 6 months. I know you feel the same way about your Jake.
Well, Jake Rocks Mom, I will be praying that things go better with things with you.
Keep me updated. I can't wait until you get Grace, I am sure she will be such a blessing to you. Try to have a good Christmas.
