Horrible GAS

We dont feed our puppy cheap food so thats not the cause of it but our lil guy has the WORST smelling gas ive ever been a privy to. Its fairly frequent too. It amazes me that something so rotten could come out of something sooooo cute. I know that gas is a trait that all boxers have, but Im curious if anyone out there has tried some form of doggie bean-o? Thanks!

You might just want to switch foods. I switched from Innova to Wellness because the gas on Innova was far too bad.

I have met people who switched from Wellness to Innova for precisely the same reason!

Sometimes it's trial and error.

Yep, it could be that although you are feeding a high quality food, it's just not the best one for your dog. So a new food might help. You can also try adding a spoon of plain yogurt to his food.

Brinkley eats Pro Plan lamb and rice dry with a can mixed in twice a week. He will sometimes get gas but his doesn't smell.

He may grow out of it...

We had the same problem with Harley. Her gas would literally run you out of the house. Of course, she thought it was just grand! She grew out of it. We didn't change anything, except maybe her treats. We feed her Nutro Natural Choice and the same kind of treats and no gas. She still gets the poots, but they don't smell, thank goodness!

My puppy was just sick so I was feeding him boiled chicken breast with chicken broth...let me just say, he cleared the room a few times! He's regularly on Nutro and isn't bad at all.

Its not just bad food that gives dogs gas...it could also be some ingrediant in your current food that doesn't agree with your dog's digestive system.

Try yogurt first and see if it lessen it, then try switching foods. Also, both of my puppies lost their gassiness as they grew older.

Yogurt works!

A glob of plain, unflavored yogurt mixed with their kibble does wonders. There have been several threads here about "boxer bombs." Yes, they are silent and deadly! Try the yogurt. I get mine at Trader Joe's.

Roxy also eats Nutro Natural Choice and does still pass gas but it rarely smells (and thank god because I often wake up to her butt in my face!). Also be careful what kind of treats you're feeding. A lot of the lower quality treats that you find at a regular grocery store can give them gas. I know they give Roxy smelly gas. The gas is something that I think all of us boxer owners have learned to live with but there are ways to make it less fowl. Roxy also seems to be outgrowing the real stinky gas. She was pretty bad as a little pup.
