Honestly, Joe needs a muzzle!!

What a morning we had here. I wake up at 6 AM to the sound of Joe trying to throw up. I jumped out of bed, and thankfully he was okay. I put him out and then fed him breakfast. Then he was crying at the door. By the time I got there he had diarrhea! I called the vet right away because if this got worse, I didn't want to wind up at the emergency vet's on Sunday. The vet took him in and examed him and said he seemed okay. I suggested doing an x-ray of his stomach because this happened a few months back and he had eaten something out in the yard. The vet agreed to x-ray him and found a large circular item in his stomach!! I could not believe it.We agreed it needed to come out. Fisrst they were going to induce vomitting to see if he would throw it up, if not they were going to try and retrieve it with the endoscope, and if that did not work...it would have been old fashion surgery for my boy. Now mind you, I was a nervous wreck...but I had to remain calm for my daughters. Of course my husband is on his way to China for a business trip. We have an uncanny curse that everything goes wrong when my husband is away. But, that's another post all together. Thankfully, Joe threw up the object. I have no idea what it is but it's 1.5 inches in diamater and about.5 inches thick. It is solid plastic. I have no idea how he could have swllowed it in the first place! Our yard is all fenced in and beautifully landscaped. I walk the yard at least once a week just looking for things that might have blown in since our scare a few months back. All I can think is it is something that fell off of the landscaper's equipment. I saved the piece and I'm going to show it to them. I keep saying the only way to save Joe an operation is to put one of those Greyhound muzzles on him when he goes out to play. We started our day with quite a fright. I think I aged about 5 years. The only way to calm down is to hit the outlet malls. I need some shopping therapy!
I just thought that for those who do not know when your dog tries to throw up or has...it may be some foreign object in his stomach. From now on whenever Joe isn't right in any respect we are off to the vets for an x-ray.

I am so very glad to hear that Joe is OK. And I understand about the eating habits of our babies. Although my girl just loves to shred things more that eat them. I did have almost the same scare last summer and again last night. I got home and Katie had diarreha and vomiting. Last summer I rushed her to vet and he said that she might have gotten overheated. Last night I just cleaned up and am watching her now. Since she had been in the crate, I know she didnt get into anything. I guess I am gonna have to turn on the swamp cooler when I go to work to keep her from getting overheated. And the worst part is that after last years event, I placed a water bottle on her crate just in case. She never even touched it yesterday. These crazy kids of ours!

I haven't had my Simba very long, but the next day after I got him I took him to the vet for shots and to get neutered. No problem right? Well my parents had to pick him up that evening since I work nights and they call me telling me that Simba threw up a sock before the surgery. It was actually still intact. I still to this day don't know if he had the sock in his stomach before I got him or if he got it at my house. I have a laundry shoot and it goes down to the basement which he's not been down in yet. But just to make sure I keep a extra watch on my socks and him. Which is good since he's also found an old chewie of my minpins which he got stuck in his mouth. Luckily I caught it and have now gone thru the house and yard to find any old chewies or other small toys the minpins may have left behind since boxers have larger mouths than minpins do. So I guess my boxer is not the only one to eat things they shouldn't.
I'm glad to hear Joe is ok.

My Herkie swallowed a beer bottle cap (unbeknownst {sp} to us)!Unfortunately a cousin staying with us had a bad habit of leaving them lying around, even after my B*#!hing all the time.I don't know how he could have gotten it down without hurting his esophagus, but I wish the vet would have suggested inducing vomiting to see if it would have come up!I didn't know any different, maybe it was the right thing to go ahead with a laporotomy.Acid from his tummy got into his throat & scarred it, he now has a stricture & will eat blended canned food for the rest of his life.The upside to that is that he can't swallow anything solid that is more than the size of a baby aspirin.So if he puts it in house mouth....which he surely will...if we don't catch him, it will come up before it goes down!Good luck with your furbaby....I'm glad he's OK & hopefully you won't have any more occurances!

Just a quick side-note: My sister told me that her son removed 2 screws from her entertainment center and then slipped them into his mouth and swallowed them. This would not be a shock, but he is 3 yrs old now and knows better. The pediatrician told me sister to wait until they pass. Anyhow, guess is not jsut our furbabies who get into stuff!

Oh Joe! Come on now, I am sure Your mama is feeding you well! Have you ever heard of the saying "Curiosity killed the cat!".

I can totally sympathize as I had a boxer girl named Zoe many years ago with a thing for eating strange objects...2 surgeries and almost $2000 later we used to joke about how she was our cheapest (rescued) & most expensive boxer! Gotta love 'em!

Glad your baby is ok. Max is a typical boxer puppy too, I guess. He will eat anything! Last month, he was acting strange like he had a belly ache. He would pace and keep looking at his behind then he would just lay down and cry. I was so upset, I thought he was going to die. My husband was sure he ate something that he shouldn't have. Sure enough, about 4 hours later he went #2 and there was a plastic pop off cap from a gallon of spring water or something like that. I was relieved that he passed it and I didn't have to have it surgicaly removed since we were on the road in California and I didn't have a clue on where to find a vet. I try to be very careful and watch him constantly but he is so fast that sometimes I am not quick enough. Maybe a muzzle wouldn't be such a bad thing after all.

Mugsy ate 5 dryer sheets the other day! I was doing laundry, and whenever I brought a load up to fold, I'd put another in the washer. I left the dry clothes in a basket in the living room on a chair. I kept noticing that when I would fold the clothes, the dryer sheets weren't there. I just thought that maybe they were still in the dryer. Well later that night, Mugsy went to do his business and this thing was hanging from his butt. He couldn't get it out and started crying and trying to run from it. My husband had to put it out, and it ended up being 6 or 7 inches long!!! When I realized what it was, I was cracking up! Thank goodness he passed them. Now I take the dryer sheets out before I do anything and throw them away.

Well, I'm glad Joe is okay! I read your other post first, about Scampy! You've had a very busy weekend!
