Honestly, Joe needs a muzzle!!

Just two days ago, Farley threw up something at about 5 am. It was round and hard, just like what you described! I have no idea what it was or where he could have gotten it. He has also thrown up part of a blanket that he chewed up when he was a tiny baby. It was so big, I couldn't believe he swallowed it in the first place. He also eats hair (mine) from the carpet. I have long hair, and sometimes when he poops, a hair will be sticking out from his bottom and he'll try to get it off but it just stays put. I have to put a poop bag on my hand and "extricate" the hair! It's really gross.

Oh my gosh Camille your post made me laugh. Even more so b/c I had to do the same thing a couple nights ago. Oscar was acting really weird like something bit him in the butt and when I looked closer he had a little dingleberry. He wasn't too happy about it.

Oh, we have been there! A couple months ago, Bongo discovered that he could pull on one loop of the carpet and a whole bunch of it would unravel with a nice, satisfying popping sound (kind of like bubble-wrap, I suppose . . .). I thought I had gotten all the yarn picked up, but two days later he hacked up a solid ball of carpet yarn that was bigger than my fist. We just stared, dumbfounded, at the size of this mass. I got really upset later when I realized how dangerous that was -- my baby could have died!!!

My husband has been working nights for the last couple of months, and he uses little foam industrial earplugs so he can sleep during the day. Well, I often let Bongo be the one to "wake up Daddy", and he has eaten countless of these earplugs that my husband has lost track of. They always turn up within a day or so . . . too gross. Now, Bongo is constantly sniffing around my husband's nightstand seeking out those tasty little orange treats!

And, like Camille, I have had to extract stuff that gets caught part-in/part-out when Bongo poops. I've decided that there is really nothing that can truly gross me out anymore.

that is one thing about tank that worries me to no end... he will eat anything. he has thrown up gravel from the driveway several times, to the point that we are purchasing paving stones and removing every single d@mn rock from our yard! one day he even threw up a fridge magnet. i don't know how to keep him from eating things, as i never catch him in the act.

Well Ive been going through this a lot with our Bust just lately. Its a case of any thing that is lying around is there to be eaten.
When we are in bed at night he licks and nibbles the bricks on the fire place, and then yes youve guessed it throws up all over the carpet. Ive been doing some searches on this because he is almost 2 and the burning question is...Will he always be like this?

Cheryl Im so glad that he was able to throw it up...I hope that if it was something from the gardeners, that they are more careful! But anyhow...Im glad Joe and you are doing ok...and I hope the theraputic shopping worked!

Glad Joe is OK! We've had this exact problem w/ Tyson a couple times. Around Christmas time he was very sick and lost a lot of weight. After having a few x-rays and being told "FOR SURE" he didn't have an obstruction, he ended up passing a piece of rubber that was quite large. Not 2 weeks after that he swallowed a squeaky toy (a whale). I had read on this site to induce vomitting I should give him a little bit of hydrogen peroxide, which I did. I knew that if he had such a hard time passing that piece of rubber, there's NO WAY he could have passed this toy. He vomitted, but the toy didn't come up. We took him in to the emergency vet who did x-rays. We still have the x-rays, and now that he's OK it's a little funny to see the outline of the fin in his stomach! Anyway they told us it was too large to induce vomiting and they were going to try and go in with an endoscope, but said it doesn't always work well and most likely he would have to go in for surgery. We made an appointment to have surgery the next morning (he was due to get neutered at the same time) and luckily that night he threw it up. I don't know if it was because we had given him peroxide earlier in the evening or if we just ended up being lucky.
We watch him VERY closely now when he's playing with any toys. He's not allowed to have anything smaller than a tennis ball (even a tennis ball makes me a little nervous) and any chew toys that he can fit inside of his mouth are promptly thrown out. If it was up to him, he'd swallow everything whole!

Sounds like ours are normal, too!

Actually, our boy (shiva - one year) pretty much only likes dryer sheets. Oh, and gulping greenies - can't havve them anymore cause he threw up large pieces twice - he's a gulper.

Our new girl (Kali - 16 weeks) wantss to eat everything. I've taken wood out of her mouth (pieces of mulch), pennies, socks... She hasn't actually swallowed anything yet - other than a few small, soft twigs which I had to pull out of her butt! Ewww!

What makes it worse is I am no the only one who lives here - my husband leaves stuff around (even though I nag him constantly!) so I've got to be on the lookout constantly!

Muggsy and the staple!

When Muggs was six months old we took him to the vet because for a week he couldn't keep anything down after pills that didn't work and four office visits later he did an xray and wow he ate a staple and it was loged in his stomach lining one surgery later and we got our $500.00 staple back. Now we don't even use staples or anything like them in the house. They will eat anything.
