Bea is doing better today. She cried this morning when we took her out of the kennel, I am sure her body is sore from the trauma. The vet called me today and the cost for surgery is going to be about $1800.00 to repair her hip (FHO, cutting off the joint that is fractured). This cost is inclusive of all aftercare, meds, anes, and taking care of her cherry eye while she is under. There is a 2nd procedure needing to be done several weeks later that will be done under anes again and she can be spayed at that time. I am trying to figure out how I am going to be able to do this financially. This vet has gone beyond the call of duty getting a second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon who confirmed a total repair is not the way to go since she is still a growing pup and may later need the FHO procedure done anyway. She has called me 3 times today to check on her and I am so impressed with her dedication. My head is swimming with the thought of this and vaccinations, recovery, etc.
My oldest son and my neighbor have been caring for Bea while I was at work. She is eating well and had 2 bowel movements today, YAY! She is peeing regularly and it is still bloody which is scary to see. She takes her meds like a trooper (loves the cream cheese I wrap her pills in!) She attempted to stand on her own today but will not walk unless her midsection is being held up by a towel. We are feeding her hamburger meat and rice. She drinks and eats like a pig making all these grunting noises. She is learning to love the cuz toy and has her own rubber bone to play with. Her nubby wags so fast and her eyes follow Mia & Rocky everywhere! When they play rough & noisy you can see her wanting to be a part of it. They in turn have been amazingly gentle with her. Rocky is sleeping next to her on the sofa as we speak. Last night we put her in the kennel to sleep alone so she wouldn't get accidentally bumped. Rocky slept next to the kennel on the tile floor! This is the same spoiled rotten dog who moves my husband and myself over so he can sleep sideways in our bed! Mia has thoroughly groomed Bea's face and ears and allows Bea to sniff and lick her back. You guys know my Mia can be a total b***h when it comes to other dogs, but not with Bea. I am slowly coming to realize that maybe this was meant to be.
Yes my dad said I was crazy, but he also said I have the biggest heart of anyone he knows and I did the right thing. He just worries about the cost of everything. his exact wording: you are so dumb, but you did the right thing! That is my dad!
I got 2 offers at work, but when both found out the costs involved they declined. One had the nerve to say I could get repaid by breeding her to Rocky once she has recovered! I did not even reply to that as Rocky is neutered and Bea will have to be spayed to prevent her hip from the stress of birth after she has healed! Yes, I told this person no, Bea is staying with me sorry!
I am trying to get a picture of all my babies sleeping together, I will post it as soon as I can get them all to stop moving as soon as they see the camera. I will also contact boxer rescue tomorrow and talk to the vet about payment arrangements. More later! Thank you all for your support, I am glad I am not the only "crazy" person out there!
