Thanks for the update. I am so glad she is in her forevever home. It is funny how things work out sometimes. I think you should go with your gut on her getting spayed early. Your vet seems well qualified and you definitely know what you are doing.

Are Bea an Rocky getting closer by the day? :)

Dora,
I have thoroughly enjoyed following Miss Bea's story. You are such an angel for taking her in and getting her all fixed up!
I work with Rockin P Boxer Rescue (a boxerworld approved rescue) and we have dogs spayed and neutered as young and 10 and 12 weeks. We will absolutely not let a dog go to a new home un-spayed or un-neutered, and we have never had any problems as a result of any of the surgeries; in fact, they seem to recover faster the younger they are "fixed." I have always read that females should be spayed BEFORE 6 months old to insure that they have their surgery before their first heat cycle.

Dora- You also are educated and aware of ACE. I think your vet should be the one left to advise you otherwise. While I appreciate the concern of the rescue (if we have a surrender then it falls through we are always nervous the dog will show up in our rescue again) I do not think he realizes what an angel you are and how amazing Miss Bea's new home and "pack" are.
Best of luck and I would get her fixed when the vet gives the ok. Bradlee was fixed at 5 1/2 months to avoid any risk of heat.

Dora--I would agree with Brynn1508--you are so knowledgable about Bea's health and boxers in general. In addition, your vet sounds like he is a pretty incredible person and did a wonderful job healing your little angel. I know sometimes we doubt a vet's advice, but in this case, I think he has earned your trust! Unless he has concerns that relate to her undergoing another surgery so young and so soon after her first major surgery . . . He is the expert.

I am SO glad to hear she is doing so well! I will keep checking back to see if there are any new pictures! I was just looking at the earlier ones--she is just so beautiful. (And so are your other babies! I just love Mia's little tongue sticking out!)

I am leaning towards having Miss Bea spayed earlier rather than later also. With 3 pups I just don't have time to deal with an early heat cycle and at this point the less she has to deal with health wise the better.

She continues to do very well and is putting weight on her leg on her own when she walks now as well. She eats like a little pig and is so vocal with her woo-woo's! Cost or no cost, we are very blessed to have found this sweet soul.

Good to hear Miss Bea is doing so well. I think you are right about geting her spayed, you all don't need to deal with a heat cycle right now. It would probably be even harder on Bea with her hip as she would be trying to lick herself to stay clean. Whatever you decide will be the right choice for you guys, you know what you are doing. Bea is lucky to have you and you are lucky to have found her, I know it was fate.

Miss Bea goes in for her spay tomorrow. I weighed the decision to go ahead and feel it will be for the best. They will also x-ray her hip and let me know how the repair is healing and give clearance for her to have more freedom to burn! I hope it is well because she gives us the saddest looks when we kennel her to settle her down. Last surgery for this girl for a very long time I hope!

I love a happy ending! What an amazing story....and journey for both you and Bea, Dora. May God bless you richly for your investment of time, love and finances for the well being of little Bea. Although from the look and sounds of it...He already has. Hope her spay goes well! Brandi sends tons of wiggles, healing vibes and kisses!!
