Update

Gus is still pretty much the same. He is still acting the same as he did last night :( I wish I knew what was wrong with my poor boy. My mom was saying that maybe I should have done the x-rays. She was thinking maybe he could have broken his jaw.... but he can eat... and the vet opened his mouth. I don't know! Who knows what he could have done the way he runs around outside. I will post later tonight on how he is doing. I will call my regular vet if he is still the same tomorrow.

I'm very sorry to hear that Gus is not well. I hope you can get him in to see your regular vet tomorrow. Do you still think it has something to do with his mouth? Has he had a bowel movement yet? If he did eat a cat toy, maybe he could have an obstruction. Please keep up updated. Sending healing get well vibes.

I really hope you get to the bottom of what is bothering poor Gus! When is your vet supposed to contact you back with more info? Could it be his jaw muscle contracting and not releasing? Meaning, could it be a muscle thing and maybe not a bone thing?

lilboxerbaby: That is what they are testing him for now.

I took him back because he was doing worse, and they want to keep him over night. They have him on pain meds and IV fluids since he wont drink. They are testing him for masticatory myositis. It's a rare muscle inflamation thing, where they can't open their mouth. They are sending that test out, so we won't know for a few days I think on that one. He is going to see the internist or a neurologist in the morning. I wanted to bring my baby home, but I know he will be better there were he can get some fluids and better pain meds. They said he seemed like he was in a lot of pain. They drew up more blood, so I will post when I know more.

The vet just called and said that his ALT level (a liver enzyme) was over 1000! She said a high level is 100!!!! His other liver tests were normal. She told me this could be related to the muscle thing, the MMM. He will see the specialist in the morning.
