Still thinking about Gus, and sending loads of prayers and vibes to you both. His liver enzymes have come down a lot. I know the drugs will help some, but I would be hopeful that his body is fighting whatever was causing the elevation. You are in a tough spot about the biopsy. Hopefully in another month things will be more defined for you to make a decision. Hopefully it will not be necessary. I only know about hepatitis the little I have read in a couple of articles, but if it is that, it sounds like while it may take a while to clear, Gus has a very good outlook.

My mom talked to one of the ER staff vets (she knows her husband, my uncle works with him) and she said something about checking Gus' heart. The internist never mentioned anything with his heart related to the eleveted ALT level. Do you think I should ask her if the liver enzyme elevation could be heart related? He has no symptoms of heart problems. He has a grade 2 murmur, but a specialist at Ohio State said we would never have to worry about it. Now I am worried about his heart. I wanted to holter monitor him, but the specilist at Ohio State said it wasn't needed. I guess if he had a heart problem other blood lab values would be off.

When he had the thing going on with his mouth, he went from 64 pounds down to 59. Now that his face feels better he keeps gaining every time we go back, and is now up to 65.7 pounds!!!! He has never been that much. He could still put on 5-10 more and look good. He is still filling in. He does look like he is filling out, but I know that as a nursing student, that people in heart failure have weight gain. I think I am just paraniod!!! He is probably just filling in. I am just trying to think of everything. I just wish they could figure it out!!! I have been thinking about having my regular vet do the biopsy. I think it's something he could do, and the cost would be A LOT less. What do you think? Do you think a regular vet could handle this procedure? Any advice would be great. I dont know what to do.

I think his face pain was a blessing in disguise. If it weren't for that, I don't even think I would have ever known about the liver enzyme. Maybe it's still all related though, I don't know!

I have decided to get the biospy done. I talked to my regular vet and he can't do the liver biospy. He said it would be better for a surgeon to do it. So, he is getting it done at the ER vet (they have specialist too) where he sees the internist. There are 2 surgeons, I think. One did Izzy's knees, and one did my sisters dog that has cancer. So, I think they are both good. I will call them this coming week. I just want him to be better by his 2nd b-day on Jan. 24th. I think we will know more after the biospy.

I will let everyone know when his surgery is. Of course, I will be an extremely worried mommy. Please keep praying for my Gussy boy, especially when he has to have the biopsy! With a liver biopsy, there is always the risk of bleeding, which is so scary.

We will be keeping Gus in our thoughts and prayers.

We had Maddie's liver biopsied when we went in to try to remove the tumor on her pancreas. The good thing about the liver is, it's a pretty forgiving organ and will regenerate itself.

Good Luck Gus!! Let us know when he will be getting it done.

Continued prayers and vibes for Gus. This will hopefully give you and the docs the answers so that you can treat him and get him totally healthy again. Gus is young and strong which is a big plus going into the procedure. Best wishes for you and Gus.

His ALT went down a little more!!!!

Gus had his ALT rechecked again, and its down a little more!! It's SLOWLY going down. A month ago, it was around 1700, today it is 1185. I haven't had the biopsy done yet, and she wasn't really pushing it right now. He has to stay on the same drugs, and doesn't have to go back for 8 weeks this time!!!! YAH! She thinks he could have some form of hepatitis. She doesn't think the broken foot is related and agrees to just let it heal, and hopefully his body will heal it itself. So, I probably won't have any updates on Gus for the next 2 months, unless something happens before then. Hopefully the ALT keeps going down, and we may never know why its so high. I just opted not to do the biopsy since his ALT is going down, I just don't want to put him thru that when he is slowly getting better, and he doesn't act sick at all.
