I have a question...I don't own a snake but a few days ago I was talking to a kid in our neighborhood who bought a ball python (sp?) 2 months ago. He said it hadn't ate anything since he has bought it even though they offer it food weekly. He said once it killed the mouse they put in w/ it but didn't eat it. He also said they can go up to 6 months w/out food but said if his sanke didn't eat w/in the next week or so he was going to take it to the vet. He said they only eat about once a month. Does all this sound right? I thought they ate more than once a month and figured if it hadn't ate in 2 months the kid would act a little more concerned. Also he said the snake is about 3' long (it was rapped around his arm but looked to be about right) and will only reach about 4'. Is this correct?? I thought they got bigger than that. Thanks for the help...as you can see I know nothing about snakes but would like to inform this kid if his thinking is incorrect. I asked him if he has done any research about snakes instead of listening to the pet shop he got it from. He said he had so maybe he does know what he's talking about...just sounds odd to me.:)

I just thought of more questions...He keeps his snake in a 55 gallon aquarium...is this big enough? I have ig's and know that by the time they are about a year old and 2 1/2' long they are too big for a 55 gallon aquarium. Do snakes like to be up high? If so how can you achieve this by using an aquarium? Do they not need the 6-8' tall enclosures like ig's do?

Thanks

"Got Snakes"

I have two ball pythons, Monte and Gloria. Monte is the younger one. Monte is more agressive with his food, large rats. He eats every three to four weeks. Gloria is older, about eight years now. She eats every three to four weeks also. Sometimes they get stubborn and don't eat for five to six weeks. I took her into vet, he said that he would weight her and watch her weight. If she droppped in weight, he would feed her intervenusly. She went almost eight weeks and then ate a large rat. She was fine. In the cooler winter months they eat less, because they go into a type of hibernation. They eat less and move slower. I keep them in seperate 55 gallon tanks. Then don't need a high tank because don't climb much. Ball pythons get o be six foot long, but not much more than that. Both Monte and Gloria are about six foot long. Good luck with the snake. Thanks for responding to "Got Snakes"wormicon Greg O

Still Got Snakes

Not much Snakewormicon imput lately. Thought I might hear about more snakes out there. My two guys really love this extreme heat we've been having lately. It's been in the upper ninties here, which is rare for Wisconsin USA. They been very active in the heat. Hope to hear some more snake stories from all our Boxer friends.

Got Snakes - Hello Greg -

I just recently talked the parents into getting a snake. Though I didn't really think about getting a Ball at first, I wanted something like a Kingsnake - California King - But that all changed when I laid eyes on the Ball at the pet store - True - They say DON'T get your animals from Pet Stores, but I couldn't resist he was adorable (I know what yer thinkin'!), and was extremly tame, I looked for any signs of mites, and though he wouldn't strike at you no matter what movement, or sound you made - He was an excellent eater, and they guarenteed it, they were right! He's an awesome little Ball. I noticed someone posted about their 7 month Ball eating fuzzy's? Someone suggested my Ball was around 6 months, because, being as excited as I was, I went gah, gah, and forgot to ask the age, and he's feeding on adult mice, he's about 15" long, and getting bigger, the thickest part of him is about the size of a quater? He's an awesome snake, the downside is, I planned on feeding pre-killed mice, but he won't accept them, so I have to stick with live, and monitor the feeding, but hey...I'll live. :D I didn't really expect to find any snake people on a Boxer board, though i'm thrilled that I did. I'll attach a recent pic of Tyke - My Ball when I have the time, have to run!

I look forward to your reply! Thanks, take care! :) kingicon

Got Snakes

Great N2 Boxers, Glad to hear from you. This thread has been pretty quit lately. I've been thinking there isn't anymore snake people out there. I also feed live large rats to my two guys. I tried frozen dead and it didn't work out. They perfer the live lunch. They are so cool, they are both adults about 8years and two years old. They are both full grown almost 6 ft. long. Their names are Monte and Gloria. I keep them both in seperate 55 gal tanks. Don't know what they would do to each other if I put them together, and really don't want to find out. I'm afraid they may not like each other and one would get hurt. I handle them both every day and give them time to check out the rest of the house, but I create the Boxer boys( Bugsy and Oskar) and my rescue pit bull of three days. So they can crawl around with out getting bugged by the boxer kids. I don't know how the pit (Loca) will handle it. Well Thanks for your reply to Got Snakeswormicon and hope to hear more about Tyke. Greg.

Got Snakes

Hey everybody, It's been along time since we had any noise on this thread Got Snakeswormicon. So I thought I would spark up a little noise. I have two Ball Pythons named Gloria and Monte. I feed them both live large rats. Just recently I got them both a couple of large feeder rats. One rat got eaten right away, but the second one was so docile that niether of the snakes wanted to eat her. Well almost one month later I still have a large white rat, now as a pet. Her name is Tasteless, she lives in a ten gallon tank. She is so sweet that I don't have the heart to feed her to the snakes. I've since got other rats and fed the snakes with no problems, I just can't give them Tasteless. She has become part of the family, she likes to ride in my pocket. My Boxer Boys, Bugsy and Oskar get along with her, Just got to watch Oskar so he don't stomp his big foot on her, in fun while playing with her. I now have My two Boxer boys (Bugsy and Oskar), a rescued American Stafford Bull Terrier ( Loca), two ball pythons (Gloria and Monte) four Ring Neck Doves( Mama and Papa, Baby1, Baby2, and Baby3 alias Clubby.) Five large fish tanks with numerous fish in them, and Tasteless the Rat. I'm sure there are Boxer people out there with more of a zoo than what I have. Like to hear from you. Remember animal lovers are a very special type of person that loves all animals
