Even More Snake Chatter

Hi Brandy, Thanks for your message in "Got Snakes". I love that snake name nolegs, clever name. I also have a friend that had a rat snake, but it got away never to be found. That was a couple of years ago and I never heard any more about it. I hope someday you get another one. China sounds like a great name for a boxer too.

We have a ball Python but she's still a baby she's about 7 months and is eating fuzzies at this stage. Her name is Akasha she's named after one of the vampires in one of Anne Rice's books. Akasha was the Queen Of The Damned. Every now and then Cherokee looks into her tank but I don't think she sees anything in there. I can only imagine how she'll react once she's bigger. How are your boxers with the snake do they see her? If they do how do they react?

Hi houseofski, Thank you or answering "Got snakes". Nice to hear from you again. So you have a baby ball python , thats great. To answer your question on how Cherokee will react to Akasha is hard because every boxer is one of a kind and special in it's own way. But my two boxer boys Bugsylovicon and Oskarevilicon both just look at Gloria and Monte and watch them only when they are moving. Oskar barks at the snakes to point where it gets annoying. Bugsy just looks and goes on with his life. I believe it's the age differance, Bugsy is eight and mature and Oskar is only two and nosey. My bigger and older snake , Gloria just curls up and could care less about the dogs. Monte who is younger just crawls away. Both Bugsy and Oskar just sniff them and then go about thier business. I keep Both Gloria and Monte in seperate 55 gallon tanks and I have picture in front of tank, so it's hard for them to see unless I want them to see. Let me know more adventures of Akasha and Cherokee.
Bye from ,GregOfiesta1ico and Bugsylovicon, Oskarevilicon, Gloria , and Monte .

Thanks for the reply. Do you take your snakes out in front of your babies or do you put them in a crate or something for when you take the snakes out?
I'm attaching a picture of akasha in her tank but she's so small you still can't see her. She's in the green leaves on the upper left hand corner. I'll tak e a better one later. This was taken when we first got her. Her tank looks a bit different now. That water rock didn't work well so we returned it. Now she has a bigger tree stick along with that little one. Maybe I'll take a new one later.

Snakes Some More

Hi houseofski, Reply to your "Got Snakes" question. No I have a baby gate between my kitchen and living room. I put the boxer boys in the kitchen first, behind the gate, then I get one of the snakes out and put her on floor. Then I let one of the guys in to check her out. Gloria, the older one just curls up and lays there. If I put Monte out, he sneaks under the couch. I never let both the boxer boys out at same time, together they are a little over agressive. I also never let Monte and Gloria get together, I'm afraid they may not get along. I once was at a pet store and the owner put two Ball Pythons togeher and one kill the other. Your right it's really hard to see Akasha in that picture. I would like to send a picture of Gloria and Monte, also Bugsy and Oskar, but I still don't know how to work my scanner I got about three months ago. Someday I will fiqure it out and put photo's in the Boxer World gallery. Bye Greg O

I'll try to get one of her later so you can see. So they have never tried to attack either one of the snakes? Cherokee like I said looks in the tank but has no clue she's in there she's usually hiding. when my husband takes her out Cherokee's too busy playing with someone to notice. We also take Akasha out for feeding. We feed her in a big box. I look forward to pictures.

"Got Snakes"

Hi Again, I feed mine in their 55gal tank. I drop a large rat in and it's gone in a couple of minutes. I noticed you have a white sand or something for bottom. I use cypress mulch. It works well for them. I also see you have a lamp on top, is that for heat or just lighting. I have a heat rock in one and a old waterbed heater under the other. They need the heat to lie on to diejest their food properly. The problem with hot rock, it can burn if they lay to long on it. The waterbed heater goes under glass of the tank and spreads heat evenly. I might buy a water bed heater for the other one to. I also have a pan of water in their tank because they drink it and like to lay in it to cool off and to help them shead off old skin. When they shead they crawl on cypress mulch, that help them peel dry skin off and then lay in water to stay moist. I never handle them when they shed because thier eyes cover and they can't see, so they tend to strike not knowing whats handling em' So when they shed I turn off the light on top of tank so they can't see. Thier eyes being covered with thin layer of skin, they only see shadows. Bye Greg O

Snake Tips

Your welcome for the tips, if you have any questions, and if I can help I'll be glad too. One more thing, if you feed live food, like rats don't leave them in to long. If Akasha don't eat in a few minutes remove her live food. Lots of times the rats are hungry also and Akasha is a little moody, she may not be interested or hungry, the rat will naw on her and may cause infection. Out in the jungle, if she is not hungry or not interested she will crawl away, but in confined area such as a tank or box she may not be able to get away. I found that out the hard way or should I say the expensive way. My Gloria got bite in the mouth by a rat and I had to take her to the vet for numerous shots for infection. I tried to feed dead bait,(dead rats) but they didn't eat the dead ones and then you have a large dead rat smelling up the house. YUCK. The dead ones you buy frozen, but when they thaw they really smell. Good Luck Greg Ocool2icon
