Gas prices

Here in Ga is goes up & down like crazy. The other day I paid $1.70 and now it is up to $1.83.

I would like to say though, if I really think about it, I pay almost $4.00 for a gallon of milk that is gone in a day, so I guess in the long run a gallon of gas it not bad at under $2.00 a gallon. If I compare the price of what I pay for a soda at the local gas station, buying the gas does not really hurt that bad. I just wish they would leave it at one price for more than a day, even a few hours.

From what John Stossel states in 20/20 gas is the cheapest that it has been. I really don't know I remember when I worked at Wareco is Iowa that gas was 31 cents a gallon for Ethyl (premium) and there where gas wars. I had a employee discount and bought Ethyl for 26 cents a gallon. Pepsi in the can was a dime and hershey bars where a nickel.

Thanks for the blast from the past! I'm 3 years younger than you. In the '70's, I walked past a service station on my way back & forth to school each day. Just before the 1st gas crunch then, gas was going for .35/gallon. We filled up yesterday at $2.03/gallon (we paid 2.29/gallon not too long ago), which is the cheapest we've seen for a few weeks now.

Anyway, this started me down memory lane. Anybody remember "real" penny candy? The big decision was how many pieces of Bazooka bubble gum you would buy. If you had a nickel, you would get 2 or 3 pieces of gum. If you had a dime, half would go towards bubble gum and the rest towards the other stuff like licorice, jawbreakers, pixie sticks, sweet tarts, caramels, shoebuttons (pastel color sugar dots on what looked like adding machine paper - you could never get the candy off without getting some of the paper along with it). When I was a real little kid (6-7), I remember that in NYC a slice of pizza or a bus or train ride were all the same price: .15!!! A small Italian ice or fountain soda from the pizzeria were both .5!!!

Boxer gas I love it ! I am near syracuse. gas was 1.82 over the weekend.

I remember gas at 32 cents. I remember thinking 1.00 per gallon was crazy expensive. I also remember penny candy. We had a little store about 3 miles away we would ride our bikes to and buy it. This was the early 70's.

I'm supposed to get 92, but I cheat and get the 89, for which I paid $2.09 the last time I filled up. 87 was about 10 cents a gallon cheaper.

I am terrible. I know that the gas prices are high but I really never pay much attention. I have less than a mile to drive to work and live in an area that everything is very close to home. My car is an 1988 and it only has 30,000 miles on it. I just pull up and put in $10-$15 dollars of gas when it needs it. Hubby complains that the deisel prices are now above the gas prices....supposed to be the other way around!

This Okie from Muskogee is payin $1.89-$2.09 a gallon (depending on the grade) I used to put the highest grade in my truck now I alternate mid grade one fill up then super the next....I don't know how they can expect us to keep our vehicles in running order and use the suggested grade of gas for them with the cost....my brother the conspiracy theorist thinks that the vehicle manufacturers and the gas companies are conspiring, .

Gas talk has always cracked me up! I have a med. size car, and am a stay at home mom. The furtherst I have to drive on a reg. basis is to my daughters school twice a day but it is only about a mile away. So I never even look at the gas price sign. Ever.
Hubby complains about gas prices ~~ALL THE TIME~~, but in his defense, we have an Escalade that he drives so gas costs much more for him.
Anyway, I think gas prices are about $1.80 here.

You're right, who could forget the candy necklaces, especially on a hot Summer day - you'd end up with a multi color ring around your neck that was tough to wash off and the elastic the stuff was strung on would get caught in the little hairs on the back of your neck - ouch! I remember the wax bottles too, we'd bite off the neck, drink the koolaid and then chew the wax -makes me kind of queasy now to think of it, but like most kids I was a major league sugar junkie.

Last time I filled up it was $1.67 a gallon. Does anyone know how many litre's in a gallon or vice versa? How many litre's does it take to fill your tank?
