OK, my favorite foreign food is Chinese. Love it! I actually had a dream about eating it last night...

Anyway, my favorite Chinese dishes are Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Crab Ragoon, Beef and Snow Peas, oh I could go on and on:).

whilst were on the subject of London grub, I forgot to tell you about faggotts, a kind of meatball dish that is also traditional fare!!!...!

Umm that dish "faggotts"..has another meaning here (the spelling maybe different but i am sure its pronounced the same way). And its not a nice one its a derogatory term for a homosexual here. My gram use to yell up to us, "you don't have any faggotts up there do you?" She meant cigarettes..we being teens would just cackle up a storm over that statement.

Our third child is adopted from Korea but we do not have any Korean restaurants nearby so I make Korean recipes myself. I have a simple recipe for kimchi which my dh and I love. Our two older children (4 & 6yrs) won't touch it, lol, but our two yr old loves it!

There are many different ways to make kimchi. This recipe is very basic but that makes the ingredients easy to buy at any grocery store.

5 cups green or Chinese cabbage, cut into bite size pieces
6 tsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp to 2 Tbsp (better like spicy!) crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp finely chopped ginger root
1 clove garlic, peeled and finely chopped
2 green onions, finely chopped

1. In a large colander, mix cabbage with 5 tsp salt. Let stand for 3 hours.

2. Rinse cabbage thoroughly two or three times. Gently squeeze out excess liquid with your hands.

3. Place the drained cabbage in a large glass or ceramic bowl. Add the remaining one tsp of salt and the rest of the ingredients and mix thoroughly.

4. Cover cabbage mixture tightly with plastic wrap and let stand at room temperature for 1 to 2 days.

5. Chill kimchi before serving. Store tightly covered.

It keeps in the refridgerator for a long time. It's a relish, really too strong to eat alone. We like it on sticky rice.

I have to say I am a big Mexican lover, but it has to be real authentic Mexican. If you have ever been to mexico and had it, there is no comparison. There are a few restuarants in Toronto that have real Mexican, not Tex-Mex.

I also love Indian & Thai curries. Thai curries are a sweeter curry, green and Red curries. Indian curries are more spicy, yellow & brown curry.

My all time fav Indian has to be Butter Chicken with Naan.

Yum! You guys are making me hungry, it think its lunch time.

As a cockney (East London born & bred), this thread has been cracking me up.

I just have to add that if you go to a cockney's wedding you will see jellied eels served up at the buffet table. ;) You put salt, pepper, & vinegar on them, then tuck in.

Also the only way to eat pie n mash is in a pie n mash shop - If you take it away, it don't taste the same. nonoicon

And you have to have a small carton of orange juice with it that they sell in the shop, or it just ain't right!! :D

BTW - Never eat pie n mash if the pie n mash shop is next door to a barbers.

Yes!!! that meat is meant to be minced beef, but you never can tell where it may have originated from.....maybe would we SHOULD re-name it Sweeney Todd and mash!.... It still wouldn't put me off though, we always get double, double,,, I can't do two pies, but the old man always orders that anyway, so he can eat THREE!! also my old man drowns his in that vinegar with capers in!

I'm not that far! :) We drove through Lemoore on our jaunt down to Texas for our wedding. haa haa! I was like, "Honey - there's a boxerworlder from Lemoore!" :D

I'd love to have your Indian recipes too! My friend's wife is a chef from India who is going to give me lessons. Indian food is next on my list!

I love to make Thai food, but just when I got good at making some choice dishes, I learned that I have high cholesterol and should be cutting things like coconut out of my diet. :) DANG IT!

I, primarily, cook Chinese, Korean and Thai at home because I know where to find the spices and ingredients I need. :p That's the challenge w/ ethnic foods - finding the right ingredients.

We are into all kinds of foods. My first love, though, is Asian Fusion.

I want to go to this Asian Fusion event in SF in April. I think it will be amazing.
