Boy, do I ever feel your pain!!! Maxymillian has the same thing going... I take him to the park, we'll be gone for 2 hours... We get back home and five minutes latter he starts whining again. He wants to go out yet again, and I can't take it anymore!!! He's driving me crazy when he does that!

Scrapper plays this too. We call it "musical doors." So we either, leave the door open a crack and he can go in and out at will, or put in the dog door, same result. I sometimes just ignore it too, but when you are training a small puppy, you can't take a chance that he/she's not trying to tell you they need to potty, so we were always getting up and opening up the back door. They trained us really well

Hello everyone, Prancer here....

I just wanted to let all of you humans know from the boxer point of view what is going on here.

I ring the bells to go out when mommy looks like she is comfortable. When a good TV show is on, like ER, I ring them all the time. I really do not want to go out, I just want her to get up and open the door, well not really, I just want her to get up and pay attention to **ME**...not TV, or talk on the phone. Or some times I want to sniff outside, but not go out because it is starting to get cold here in Wisconsin.

Plus mommy says she needs more exercise, that is why the mean-mean tread mill is in the living room instead of the basement now. I am just helping her get more exercise...right?

And I do not get treats for going out, but I think I should. I should get a treat or I will play more tricks.

But I think ringing the bells when mommy is going potty is the best. She says "Prancer come" and I ring them louder. ha-ha-ha and then she gets up to come and I run in the bathroom to see the water go round and round and down. Now that is fun.

One last thing. I mommy does not open the door when I ring the bells, I teach her a lesson. I go on th new white carpet and let out a little pee I have been saving "just in case". That teaches her a lesson about not opening the door!

Good night, time to go ring the bells,

Prancer

Hey Prancer,

Grunt here. Thanks for filling everyone in on some of the reasons why we do what we do.

I don't use a bell, I just whimper and whine a little. Daddy usually says, "WHAT??? You just went out 10 minutes ago!!!" I stare at him for a while, then go to my mommy who will take me out, except when I HAVE just been out 10 minutes ago. Then she just ignores me. I usually do get treats after I have done my business. I used to get more treats by saving up my pee and having to go out 5 times in an hour, peeing a little bit at a time. That didn't last too long. They were on to me pretty quick.

Also, I like to go outside and check things out in the 'hood. When my buddy, Cooper, the Highland Terrier, is out walking with his mommy or daddy, I can hear his tags jingling, and I just NEED to be out there. Know what I mean? I think we just want to be where the action is.

I hope Mason's mommy will forgive him. I make my mommy crazy sometimes too....but I know she can't stay mad at me for too long when she looks into my big sad black eyes, and I put my head in her lap. Gets her every time.

Your friend,
Grunt

I'm feeling ya'll sooo much!I miss my back yard sooo much!I know Herkie needs more exercise...I walk him several times a day, and if I haven't taken Tylenol PM and I'm not too groggy then we go to the park. But Herkie needs to run....a long walk doesn't do it for him.And there's no where around my community that I feel comfortable letting him off leash and running, WAY TOO MUCH TRAFFIC!I want to go to the dog park, but I'm very skeptical after reading a lot of the stories here about fights, etc....especially since he's still intact.I have to say my little fellow has done pretty well about adjusting to not having a back yard anymore, if he gets to go on 3-4 20 min walks a day....then he's satisfied....but not tired! And yes of course...he must ALWAYS go out when CSI is on...one of the very few TV shows I watch!I iust keep telling myself this is temporary, and my boys will have a yard again soon.I used to run in & out all the time...or sometimes they just wanted to be inside...but I never minded there. Now 100 degree weather, downpours, sleet or snow....we have to walk instead. So I am totally feeling you!

I feel your pain too. Especially having 3. And Koda, being the smartest (evidently) has figured out how to scratch at the door (at 9 weeks old). So, as soon as they all come in, one by one I'm taking them all back out. I get back with one, and the other is wanting out. Good thing I have hubby and Mia to help or I'd be ready to go stand in the middle of the street and let something run me over.

Not to mention cleaning their feet every single time. I have permanent back damage. And me floor is still the nastiest one in town!

our bruce is 11 months old and used to do this all the if he'd been tio the toilet i used to just ignore i had to because he would just go and try and at the plants or dig at all the stones so i would have to stand out there if i didn't choose to ignore. now he is not so bad he'll still try now and again or he'l go out and come running back through the house like the devils chasing him with his football and he knows he's not allowed in the house,I'll never yell at him though.

Oh my gosh I know exactly what you all mean --Keno does the same thing to us !! He wants to go out (unless ofcourse it's raining then he starts to go out & then decides to back his big butt back in the door  ) but he'll sometimes not even leave the back porch...it's funny because when he's ready to come in he jumps up on the door and paws at it as if he's knocking all the while looking around the corner into the kitchen to see if we're coming !! And if we don't respond as fast as he'd like he just goes over to the kitchen window jumps up and looks in at us as if to say " Can somone plz get up and let me in?!!"

Our babies really just want our attentiion. I've spoiled mne so badly by catering, I find it almost unbearable to be home. Its a vicious cycle, especailly now when the weather sucks and its dark early. They get less and less attention and get needier and needier!
They cry the very second they dont get what they want! I am trying to remember to ignore the tantrms - but its hard. Then I get mad and yell. Poor little ones just dont undrstand why we need them less then they need us.

My boys do this too. Where did they learn that?!?!?! LOL

Prance and Grunt, Thank you very much for explaining this to me. Sometimes as a human I think that I forget what is going on in your cute doggie heads. I will try to remember this next time. Hugs and kisses... Thank you!! :D
