DRIVING ME NUTS! (vent)

Ok maybe I am just in a mood but Mason is drivng me $@*&$% Nuts! He has a real bad habit of wanting to go outside every 5 mins. And he is at it again today and it just really pisses me off when he does this. He will just stand there and stare at me. ARGHHHH!!! Then when I do let him out all he does is go out and bark and make an ass of himself! ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I have yelled at him and he is now hidding in the bedroom. I feel bad that I yelled at him but man does he get on my nerves when he does that crap. *sigh* Thanks for letting me vent.

I totally feel you! I am trying to get this project done before my birthday (which is coming up pretty soon) so I have been working on it non stop and today Asia wants to go out like every ten minutes, I sware! Then when we do go outside she just walks around and doesn't do anything or just sits down and looks up at the trees waiting for the squirrels to come down and yack at her (which is really annoying, too)! I wish I had a backyard so she could just run until her little heart's content without having to be on a leash! If I yell at her or say 'shhh!' loud enough she knows i'm upset, she woo woos at me then lays down so I feel bad and have to go give her kisses, but then that gets her all riled up again! It's a lose-lose situation here I guess!

She is now laying down on my feet - I am going to go take her out again so we can do nothing...fun! I sware I will never get this thing done by the time I want to! And OMG, the neighbors who love rap just turned up their very loud speakers! UGHHH!

Quinsi does this too. He'll sit at the back door and just whine and whine and whine. Most of the time he doesn't really *need* to go.. he just wants to go outside. Which wouldn't be so bad.. if he'd quit DIGGING UP MY YARD!

I don't deny him going outside unless I know for sure he was just recently out there. Within the last month he's started to let us know that he has to go potty. At first he wouldn't let us know, we would just keep track of it and let him out every so often. Then he started to just sit at the back door and we'd see him and let him out. Then he started to whine. The whining seems to be nonstop. Not just to go outside.. but for everything. For instance, if we get pizza, we pull the toppings off (Atkins way of eating ) and the dogs know they get the crust. We let the crust cool down while we're eating the rest of it and then we give it to them. So meanwhile, Quinsi will sit in front of the stove and whine and whine because he knows that crust is up there just waiting for him.

I need to read up on the whining.. it can get a little out of hand sometimes.

I'd want to be outside away from you too if you yelled at me.

Why not ignore the dog? A simple solution. If the dog has just come in from potty or from playing and turns around and wants out again, redirect the dog to a bone or something inside the house. He probably doesn't know what to do with himself in the house if you aren't paying attention to him.

In fact, just as I'm reading this, my dogs rang the bell to go out. They just came in about 5 minutes ago and played and pottied. I simply said not now, go play with your toys, and that was that. No yelling, no frustration, just dogs who are inside with me now, chewing on bones.

If you give the dog attention for bad behavior, be it yelling or letting him out every single time, he will continue that behavior because he knows it works. Stop catering to your dog so much and train him in what TO DO, not what not to do. You'll all be much happier for it.

My girl loves to be outside also and I think she likes hearing the bell ring. If she starts the every 2 minute drill of wanting to go outside I give her a stuffed kong or similar or tell her to go and find Silver (cat) and then they play.

He wanted to go out before I yelled at him.

And I guess that I am just not as good at ignoring. He has plenty of things to play with inside. Tons of toys and even a brother boxer and 4 cats to torment. His issue is that he heres the littlest noise outside and he wants to go out and bark at it. I know the whole trainging thing with not rewarding bad behavior with attention, but atleast for me, its easier said than done. And I am sure that I am not alone in that thought.

My orignal post was just a vent. I was just having a bad moment. I wasnt asking for training advice, but thank you anyhow for your imput.

P.S. Cami, Thank you for the idea of the Kong. I have yet to try one of those. I normaly give either a Busy Bone or a Rawhide. I think I will have to try the kong. Seems like it would be cheaper in the long run.

sinbad will stand at the back door to be let out (sierra does this too now) and when i open the door they will walk out then turn around and walk right back in then stand there and look at me waiting for their treat(they always get treats for going outside)most of the time i give in and give them a treat because they are just sooo cute....

Watch out...your boxer is training YOU!! My mom has 2 and I swear, they have her trained very well! Mom does not need hand signals nor verbal communication...just eye contact! She was a quick learner too...they had her trained in no time! She must open the patio doors at least 5 times in 10min!! I always remind her of the MANY times she yelled at us as kids (7 of us)..."NO RUNNING IN AND OUT"!! So why then are the dogs doing it and she's jumping up and down like the official Door Man Of The Year??
It's ok to ignore them when you know they don't really need to potty and you don't have the time for play...it's hard..but it's ok! A kong...chew..or crate should keep your Mason quiet for a little while. I know in your case it's not possible, but I keep suggesting to Mom to get a doggie-door. It would save her alot of time! Good luck.

I feel you.....

I understand exactly how you feel. Although we all adore our dogs and will lay down our lives for them, we are ALSO not perfect, therefore, we get frustrated. Fortunately, I have a doggie door with a big back yard, so Mush can come and go as she pleases. But if I had to get up and deal with her and my other two everytime they wanted in or out, I'd probably go crazy.

Don't worry about an occasional yell either....I think they call that being human......And I'll just bet there are parents out there that even give a yell at their human kids too.....

Feel free to vent here whenever......most people here totally understand.

Samson has been going through a difficult time now that daddys back to work and can't be with him 24 hours a day! I'm doing the best I can to keep him entertained while its just me, but he will sit there and stare at me and let out little cries when I'm trying to do my homework! Daddy has spoiled him way too much, and now I have to be the one to break this habit! I love spending time with him but I have to get my work done and he doesn't like that! You guys should see the look I'm getting right now, its unbelievable!
Its a small price to pay, he could be doing worse things! Unfortunately, we are not all master trainers, but I'm sure we will learn from experience!
