My biggest Pet Peeve!!
This is what Magic does, and it drives both me and Matt nuts, she will take a mouth full of food, and look at us and spit it on the floor :mad: She does this on purpose i swear!!! and then she will take another mouth full of food and go in our living room and spit it on the floor in there, and then go back and eat the rest of her food. I just recently switched her to a new dog food (Chicken soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Adult Dog food) and i find less and less dog food on the floor and more in her mouth and tummy

Nikki does the exact same thing as your Layla. She doesn't do it everyday though. I think it's kinda funny, except when I step on a kibble (ouch!). Oh, and I always add something to her kibble (yogurt, sauce, canned food, etc) so it's never dry.
My theory on this was maybe Nikki had some kibble in her mouth that did not have any yogurt or canned food on it, thus she spits it out. My Dad always tells me to "completely stir" her food so every kibble has something gooey on it, which usually does the trick. Still a mystery to me why Boxers do this though. Who knows?!? Hehe!! I think it's kinda cute, except for the cleaning part! :p

Roscoe does a lot like you described Nikki doing. He gets a bit of canned food and a blob of yogurt with his kibble and picks out the ones with the goodies before the dry ones. And, if he gets a mouthful of kibble with canned mixed in you can see him lick at it in his mouth then spit out the "cleaned" kibble pieces.
I guess I am lucky though that he just drops them in a radius around his bowl and finishes them all off when the bowl is empty!:rolleyes:

Himmm, maybe its not the dropping it that the thing but the wandering around that does it. Do you think as they eat they are worried about someone taking their food and are sort of casing the joint as they eat?? My guys don't do this they really take their time and look at ease. Do your guys eat fast? seems almost like a protect of food thing?? maybe i'm nuts.
They don't do this with water because its probably not necessary. My guys drip though, drink and drip! then look for someone to rub their lips on

My boy also leaves a trail of kibble wherever he goes. If he hears a noise out front of the house, he has to run to the window to check it out. There is usually kibble on my front windows.
When he eats and drinks and then rubs his mouth on someone..we say"I've been slimed!"

Xena has always done this too. She doesn't always go back to clean them up...unless she is really hungry. I look at it as "the hunger meter"! When I see her with her butt in the air, front legs fully extended in front trying desperately to scratch that 1 lonley little kibble out from under the fridge or stove....then I know she would probably appreciate some more in the bowl!!:rolleyes: :p

Bella falls under both categories: dribbling the food on the ground, AND pushing some of it out with her nose. She eventually eats it all off the floor.
.... OR the cat will come eat it. The cat loves her food. Bella is trained to keep away from the cat, so she'll actually sit there and watch the cat eat right out of her bowl with this helpless, aggravated expression on her face... about 4 feet away. I'll come chase the cat away, and Bella is happy again!
