It's so hard to tell from a picture... and I agree, why would they lie about the age???
But if he was 12 weeks, he was a tiny puppy! Grumpy was 7.5 lbs at 8 weeks, and she's always been an itty bitty girl, at 15 months now (so almost full grown) she's only 48 lbs.
He is adorable in that pic, whatever age he is lovicon

That's too funny, I was reading everyone's response and they all knew how much thier baby weighed. I was thinking, "I must be a bad Momma if I can't remember how much they weighed at that time :( BTW, Maximus is very cute, I just want to smooch all over him!!!!

He could have just been the runt of the litter.... We're thinking that Abbi was the runt of her litter because she's so small (53 pounds at 20 months and 20 inches at the shoulder) and she weighed just under 15 pounds at 12 weeks. Hayden on the other hand, he's our little moose! He weighs 24 pounds at 15 weeks.

You would think they would lie to say he was younger... doesn't make much sense to say older, especially since it makes him look smaller for his age where most people would want advertise a bigger stronger dog. With that being sad I'd tend to believe your BYB. Is there anyway to contact any other buyers, or call breeder and say you'd like him to play with some of his siblings and could the BYB contact other owners to see if interested then you could compare. he is so cute and whether he is 8,10,12 or 16 weeks it doesn't matter aslong as you celebrate his Bday once a year and spoil him rotten.

We had a litter of 8 fours years ago, the biggest pup Ty was huge & looked much older at 8 weeks than his siblings. The runt Lily was tiny in comparison to her average size siblings. Hurricane may just have been the runt, did'nt you see him with his siblings before you brought him home? or was he the only pup left when you visited? If you did'nt see any litter mates he most likely is the age the breeder said, the runt of the litter is sometimes the last to find his new family. Hurricane is gorgeous, I am sure he will soon put on weight. Lily soon caught up, incidently in that photo Hurricane looks bigger than Lily did at 12 weeks.

Sorry its taken me so long to post again, started a new job this week and haven't had ANY time to be online!
We did see the rest of his litter, he was only the 2nd one sold out of 8 pups, and he was middle sized. The biggest one was twice his size, and the runt was half! (she was adorable, we almost picked her) The rest ranged in between, mostly around his size. He was one of two brindles, the rest were fawn.
The BYB we got him from told us he was having trouble selling them because there were about ten other litters listed born around the same time as him, so there was an abundance of boxer pups in that area at that time. There were a bunch in the newspaper that weekend, we looked. That said, seeing the pictures you all have posted, I have to say he really does look more like 8 weeks than 12. Both parents who were on site looked about 60-ish lbs, the female maybe was 55 lbs. So I don't know that he will be tiny, if he follows in their size.
Which brings me to my next point. He came with papers, and on his registration papers it states march 19 is when the litter was whelped, which means he would have been 12 weeks when we got him June 17. But the papers (on closer inspection) also say he was in a littler of NINE puppies, not eight. There were only eight when we went and got him. (the one that had been sold had not been picked up yet so we got to see that one too). So I am thinking this was a little shady. Sigh. Not that I regret him, I love him to death but I wish I had known better, I hate that we gave money to a BYB this irresponsible. And the phone number that we had for them is now out of service, so we have no way to contact them.
The vet has never told us what he thinks, he just asked how old he was and made general comments on how adorable he is etc, although they did think he was a Pit when they first met him. He didn't have very droopy jowls when he was smaller, they have finally started to drop and look more "boxer." Of course the vet also said that he had never seen a boxer that color and that he didn't know they even came in that color
so obviously he was not a boxer expert! But he was very kind and willing to listen to us and our opinions.

Looks exactly like Bowie...
He is beautiful, he looks right about the same size as my Bowie when I bought him home. Bowie also came from a BYB - I knew that it was wrong to buy from a petstore but wasn't well informed about BYB at the time, now that I am my next Boxer will be a rescue. (We'd like a friend for Bowie in the next 6 months or so)
Back to the point - he looks very similar in size to Bowie and when we picked Bowie up he was 7 weeks old. I thought that was a bit young, but he was the last pup of the litter left and was already on solid food... He is now nearly 12 weeks and has nearly doubled in size. I remember at 7 weeks he used to fit underneath my son's potty stool and now he couldn't get his head in there!
But he could very well just be a very small pup....
