LuLu's Mom

Boxer Pal
Like DeeDee, we have a small dog (Graciela, a 5 yr old Chihuahua) who barks at the slightest thought of a visitor. Lenoxx (LuLu) follows her, usually silently, and stands at attention. There have been certain people that he will howl at, I usually take that as an indicator. Although never aggressive I think he would be ready to protect my husband or myself, but more likely me. He seems intune with our emotions, especially me. He was our guard dog in AZ, just by sitting in the window when we were not home, any passerby would just see a silhouette of a big, dark color dog. I have used his statue when I am home alone and a stranger is at the door, he is ready too lick but I hold him and tell the stranger that I cannot open the door because of my dog and they need to talk to me thru the glass. It's worked in scaring off those shady people. It is funny because you here the 4lb chihuahua but see the 65lb Boxer.

Toni will protect me. She is six months old and at about 5 months started alerting me to strange movements/sounds outside the house. Then a couple of weeks ago my BF and I were playing that he was hurting me, she had a fit. Ears back, eyes bugged. We stopped and apologized to her. Then just yesterday the telephone man was at my house when I got home from work. I had to let her out of the crate to go to the bathroom. He was outside the fence so I warned him that I had to let her out but that although she looked mean she would only hurt him if she could get to him to lick him to death - WRONG - she went out and I went with her this time just in case she took a disliking to the man. Well she did not see him at first and he made a noise. OMG she whipped around, assumed the attack stance with the hair on the back of her neck and down by her butt standing on end. I didn't even know that hair would stand up, and then she gave the biggest meanest barks I have ever heard. I softly called her name and told her it was alright, but she wasn't sure and she started to the fence. Now she has never jumped it but I am sure she could if she tried, so I took her collar, knelt down and put my arms around her and told her she was a good baby to take care of mommy. Don't know if that is how I should have handled it, but he was a stranger on the outside of our house. Later in the evening some mothers came down our road walking their skin kids in strollers. She was in the house but heard them talking and ran to the door and make the biggest fuss. Believe me I do not think that anyone in their right mind would want to try to come in my house with that going on. Again the hair on her back and rump was standing on end. Again I hugged her and told her that it was alright that they were not going to hurt mommy. I am not sure she believed me because she ran from window to window watching where they were going. Once she was assured that they were just passing by, she was fine. Now had I let them in the house she would have licked them to death. I sure do love me little protector.

I had to reply to this thread considering last night Coco showed me she IS protective. She was such a good girl!!! This will be kind of long but I must give the basis for my paranoia last night and why Coco did such a good job. A few weeks ago we heard noises outside and someone had broken our outside lights out and then my son's bike was stolen right out of our front yard in the middle of the day. Now....I don't live in a bad neighborhood (at least I didn't think so) but there apparently is some teenage boys (three to be exact) that have some sort of issue with vandalism/theft on our street. We did recover the bike from them. That is a whole other story so I won't go into that now. Anyway.....hubby is out of town for the week working and that leaves me, daughter and Coco at home. Around 10 last night Coco gets up in the window and starts this low growl and was looking up the street, I didn't see anyone for a min, then here come those boys down the street that have been causing problems, she went bolistic! She started barking, snarling, pawing at the window, and her hair went straight up, tailed bushed out. Foam was forming on her lips! I have never seen her mean business like she did last night. Anyway the whole time these boys were walking by she was acting like this and they heard her and saw her, kept walking but were looking back at our house/window. After they went up the street, Coco still stood there and watched and every once in awhile would growl that low scary sound and after about 30 mins, she laid back down and relaxed. I was glad cause I was afraid they were coming back for some kind of revenge after our interactions with them. Coco made me feel safe and I made sure she had free roam of the whole house last night and will for the rest of the week while hubby away to keep me safe. I luv my dog! I wonder if she just knows they're up to no good or is more aware cause daddy's gone?

I always thought my katie would just lick people to death or trip them up getting love. but, once, we were at my sisters house. it was me, sis, granny, my 11 yr son, 3yr niece, and infant nephew out in the back yard. the screen door to the house got stuck and my intelligent BIL just tried to bang it open with his hand. Well, katie went beserk! i had to use all my considerable weight to hold this 50lb dog from going through the door to my BIL's throat. Funny thing was, every time my neice walked in front of katie, she would stop barking and lunging. otherwise she was about to become airborne. When BIL got the door open, he stepped out and said, why is she barking? (he's not so bright) and then katie started kidney beaning all over the place. so i know she will protect if she has to.

Best Sign Ever

Konah is only 9 weeks old and the only thing he "attacks" are me and my BF, licking and chewing, (i give him plenty of toys but somehow none compare to human flesh and slip covers *L*) so who knows if he'll be protective or not, but i saw this sign that i'm thinking of having redone:

"Break In- <insert pic of boxer>- Make his day."

*L* I loved it. I also love that one about making it to the gate in 3 seconds...very persuasive

(oh, and i'll have pics of Konah soon.)

Harley is still very young, not quite one year old yet. She is very protective.
She is more leary of men than women. I think she senses that I'm more nervous if a man is outside or knocking or whatever. She will let them know that she's here and they are on her territory.

Harley is also protective of our kids. One time, my aunt came over to visit (who NEVER comes to visit!) and she came right in the door and grabbed my baby right off the floor. Harley immediately lunged at her. My aunt put my son back on the floor, put her hands in the air, and backed away slowly. Hehehehehe. My aunt went on and on about what a good dog she is to be that protective. Harley is fine with her now. I guess she just thought someone was going to grab my baby and run. Lol.

Our little girl, Chloe, is just now finding her bark. She takes her cues from Harley. If Harley is upset, then Chloe gets upset too. It's too cute.

I hope I never have to find out if mine will defend me.

My male is the most laid back easy going, people loving Boxer ever. If someone broke in, I wouldn't be surprised if he merrily brought them his rope, and tried to coax them into playing ... Ahh well, at least he LOOKS intimidating ;). Actually, I KNOW he would protect me if it really came down to someone posing a threat. Once when I was walking him after dark, the neighbor's Siberian Husky, came tearing out of nowhere and tried to jump on me.....Loki got in between and pinned her to the ground, growling. She wasn't trying to "attack" me...she's very friendly, but he thought I was being threatened and responded accordingly. I think he would react the same way if a PERSON tried to hurt me.

My female on the other hand is a LOT more cautious of strangers and strange noises. She "patrols" the yard at night when I let her out, and when she's inside and she sees someone strange walking up to the house she stands in the window with her fur up and lets out the deepest , most ferocious sounding bark. Its a funny sight. She's all of 44 lbs and has the sweetest little flashy face...I'm sure its quite unnerving to the person on the other side of the door though. I KNOW she would attack if I was ever threatened.

I keep a "Beware of Dog" sign in my window anyways...just as a deterrent

Wow!! Smooshie and I have the same exact set of behaviours here! Telmar, my boy....i swear would just lick you to death if you baby talk him!! He is just a big old baby who wiggles non stop....but he looks SO mean...people are terrified of him with that black mask and cropped ears!! He growls at noises at night but that is about it!
Sasha, on the other hand...looks so fragile and sweet..such a little princess(and she is when she wants to be).....however she is mean as a snake to people she does not know! We have lived in this less than desirable neighborhood since March and she HATES the neighbors...no matter what....I at first thought this was a bad thing, but have come to appreciate her skepticism! She is my patrol dog...always looking in the windows outside (just barked at a car who had music playing too loud) and hates anyone to be within sight of our door! I have no doubt she would attack rather viciously! Telmar....well he just barks when she does....he just does what she does and actually barks at HER for barking....its rather hilarious!!!

Rocky III is still to young and goofy! Rocky I had a mean streak in him a mile wide. He was lovable to us, but to strangers he was very aggressive. This was not something we encouraged, it just was the way he was. Rocky II bit my brother on the but many years ago. My brother came in the house wearing a scary werewolf mask and startled a very unaware Rocky. Rocky jumped up, bared his teeth and jumped my brother like white on rice. He screamed and waved the mask in the air and we pulled Rocky off of him. but for a couple of days Rocky was very upset with him and would growl when he came near. Mia the boston is a good alarm, and has no common sense. I am confident she would attack anything that invaded her home.

I think Toffee would protect me. When I rented the house I had in town and the satellite dish was installed, she kept a very close eye on the guy anytime he was in the house--I put her in a sit/stay and she growled any time he moved. He would open the door just a little and ask if it was okay if he came in. If anyone comes to the door, she barks with her back fur raised. Of course, if a mean person broke in, I can't guarantee she would *stay* protective, but.... I think so.
