Well my husband was leaving town for a few days and he wanted to put our baby's to the test....so our 2 boxers and I sat on our back porch like we do all the time......my husband snuck around to the side of the fence and acted like he was going to climb the fence into our back yard.....my baby's came unglued...we have a 6 foot fence and they were jumping as high as the fence trying to bite him they were growling the whole 9 yards....glad they would protect me ....

I am 100% sure Duke would protect me. I don't think he would be detered by anything like people food. He accepts a few people in the house, but I usually have him on a leash with everyone else. A couple of my older daughters friends were wrestling on the floor..a girl and a guy. The girl was one of the people he likes, not even one of the family. He lunged after the boy and had to be restrained, and has never liked him since. Of course the idiot boy sat and tried to stare him down...and knew better, his family raised dogs for years. Same boy goes to another freinds house.their dog tried to castrate him every time it sees him...it's a mini dauchsund.

My mother in law came over wearing curlers in her hair one time. Duke sat next to me the whole time leaning against my leg emitting an occasional low growl. I thought it very astute of him.

I am not sure if Samson would attack an intruder. He will make his deep bark if the UPS man pulls into the driveway, but if he is outside when he pulls up, he would rather lick him to death. One time we had a complete stranger in the house. Samson was not aware that we had a visitor. When Samson walked down the hall towards us, he nearly hugged the wall. We looked very timid. Our friend, at that time a stranger to Samson, said, "What a wussie." We laughed at it because Samson, the big guy that he is, did look rather funny.

Dogs do sense a bad person from a good person in many instances. I had an American Eskimo that didn't like a particular friend of my son. That kid broke into our house later that year, when my dog was in her crate, and I have since said that the dog knew the kid was up to no good. She detested him and it was obvious.

Delilah, well, I do not know what she would do. She lets Samson know when he is too rough with me, but I have no idea if she would protect.

My wife posted earlier about my boxer Boo going under the bed. Well I have seen enough evidence about her to know if anyone came in this house that was not welcome, they would be in a world of hurtevilicon

She is a loving, happy dog, but when I play rough with her or she sences that im uneasy about someone we cross on the street or at the door she is poised to rip their head off. She gave me a left hook 3 days ago that left me with a split lip that ive been explaining everyday at work smashicon

I have no doubt that Boo would defend us if anyone tried to harm us, cause she knows dad would give her lots of cookies :p

we have a pretty good "alarm system" of dogs...
gus, our 10 # silky terrier barks at EVERY noise he hears! so even if the big dogs don't hear it at first, gus lets them know and they all 4 go crazy.
our 2 boxers bark at everyone who comes into our dog grooming shop. sometimes it's embarrassing, but if i tell them "it's okay" they'll usually stop. roxy is little, so a lot of people ask me if she's a pit bull. jojo is 2, and still very skinny (he's a teenager!) but he is extremely protective. i'm about 5 months pregnant and pretty much the whole time i've been pregnant he sleeps by my belly every night and sits on my lap when i sit down (i don't know how much longer he'll be able to do that!) whenever anyone comes on "his" property, his hackles go up, ears go back and his jowels go straight out and he gets that mean low growl. i have no doubt he would protect me b/c my cousin put his hand in the car and jojo let him know it wasn't acceptable!
we also have a great dane who is very protective of us and any kids that are around. my husband was wrestling with my little sister and carl (our dane) thought he was being too rough and told him to stop. another time i was getting ready to leave work, and i put carl in the jeep and ran back inside to get something. my brother was at the front door so i told him to just come home with me and he went to open the car door and carl wouldn't let him in. so i had to get out, open the door, hug my brother so carl would know it was okay for him to get in. when he got in, carl starting licking him to death!

even if my dogs wouldn't protect us, i think their looks and barking are enough to scare any bad people away! the boxers jump up and down and bark. carl jumps over the gate that separates the front of the shop from the front door (so dogs don't get out during business hours) and that really scares people! of course he just wants their attention, but they don't know that! he usually does it to old ladies with little poodles or yorkies!! i'll probably get sued one of these days for my dogs causing a heart attack!! :D

Powder is a great guard dog. Each night when we go out for her last pee/poop, she has to walk the fence-line and go to the back of the house to make sure there are no boogers around. If we are in the house and she hears any noise out of place she will come get me and we Must investigate it. If I know what the noise is and ignore her she pesters me until I relent. If there is a knock on the door, we have trained her to come get us, come to the door and sit. When I am home and we are outside and someone comes up to the gate she will bark like crazy and get behind me so I can let them in. But if my wife is home alone and someone comes to the gate she has to put her inside. They aren't coming in the gate with her outside. The cable guy found that out. As to whether or not she will actually attack someone hurting us? I hope I never have to find out.

I have no doubt in my mind that Omar would step up and protect his family. Magnum, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about. He'll follow Omar's lead and bark when Omar does, but it's only while standing BEHIND Omar.

Once we had a repair man out to our house in TX for a service call. I grabbed onto Omar and told the guy it was safe to walk through the kitchen because I was holding Omar. He told me, "It's not him I'm worried about. It's him - the quiet one. He just keeps following me around and watching me." and he pointed to Magnum. :D

So who knows. I hope I never get put into a situation where I'm forced to find out.

I have never seen LC react agressivly to people, but she does investigate noises she hears. She dosen't bark at the door, but goes to the window to see who it is first. My G. Ret Buddy will defend me. He is very protective. I have no worries with either of them around.
