I get Cami's name mispronounced alot. Most people say Tammy....Hubby is always quick to let it be known that it is actually Camshaft (a car engine part!) and we call her Cami for short. Then of course there is ALOT of explaining to do....When an engine is running the camshaft is in constant motion, seems to fit her perfectly. The cats name is much more obvious...her name is Silver (her color) but it was for our race car that is of course silver.

no one has laughed at Princess' name yet but i used to have a German Shepherd named Sarah and i got a few laughs at it such as "Sarah is a wimpy name for a German Shepherd" that ticked me off whenever someone said that.. but oh well.. i loved her and she loved me.. so i didnt really care what other people thought of her.. she was definately the best dog i ever had besides princess.. lol

I hear you on people the mistaking names for something else. Most people think Panzer's name is Tanzer. *shrugs* Most of the time at the dog park, I use Panz.

Maybe we're lucky in our neck of the woods. I haven't encountered anyone saying rude things about our boy or overheard anything about another dog's name. What I do frequently is explain where Panzer came from. Only once has someone actually said, "Panzer, as in the German tank?" He got a smile of relief.

Names are a pretty personal thing. I wish most people who make rude comments would hold their tongue for a minute. Don't they remember the line from Bambi??

"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Yep, I even get that with Henry. Guess it's the sort of name where you either love it or hate it. For a dog, I like it (obviously, LOL, or I wouldn't have named him that) but it is clear to me that I'm in the minority ;)

We have a Henry too! I didn't pick his name, but I do think it is adorable and very boxer fitting.

We get a LOT of looks when we tell people Sidda's name. No one has EVER heard of it before. It was the name of a character in a movie and I thought it was cute and very southern sounding. One person has even told me that I should never name a dog with something starting in "s" because they are harder to train.

My favorite names are ones that are really original or really have meaning to those who gave the name.

Gruntsmom

Oh yes, I understand. We get that ALL the time!!! "Grunt....what kind of a name is that?? or "How can you name such a beautiful dog, Grunt?" It all started with the breeder who told us that the name probably would not be acceptable to AKC. (it was, no questions asked!) My husband named our beautiful brindle baby boy Grunt, Warriors' Pride. (Can't you tell....he's retired Army Infantry! ) And I always add, "his mommy's and daddy's pride as well". Along with the laughs, rude remarks and questions, I do have to mention that people who know what a grunt is think the name is really cool. Names are such a personal thing, so it always kind of surprises me when some people have to make some of the comments they do.

Both my babies have common boxer names (Tyson and Ali) but no one ever says anything at least not to my face!?! I think honestly that the nick names I have for my two, the squishy faces and the fact that they are spoiled rotten and treated better than some children brings more ridicule than anything else! but who cares I'm happy and that is all the matters as long as no one else gets hurt!!! frogicon so neener neener!

Yeah I get that with Ping.. people ask what his name is and I tell them, they are like "Pink?" NOOOOO P-I-N-G.. like "PING PONG!" then they say "you named him after Ping Pong?" LOL Noooo.. people are so puzzled by this.. sorry I guess i should've named him "Rover" so everyone would be pleased ! I like my baby's name, and it fits him and HE likes it so there! frogicon

MyGirlHeidi

Completely Boxer Crazy
We get Heidi Ho all the time! I don't care..I call her that too! Although we do have a friend that renamed her Hilda! That doesn't bother me either because he likes Heidi..he's just made a pet name for her.

That is too funny! We call our boy Ping Pong sometimes. A very deconstructed form of his name thanks to the boyfriend...

(Panzer - Pan Pan - Pang Pong - Ping Pong)

No One Has Had MOre Crap than Saddam!!!!

okay everybody, what do you think of the name Saddam??? When I first talked about Saddam on boxerworld, everybody was horrified that I would name a dog such a terrible name. How could you name a beautiful animal such an awful name??? they would say. Well, Saddam's name fits him, and here is how he got it

Two years ago I went to pick out a boxer puppy. The one I was to buy was named Rocky, he was a beautiful fawn with great markings. While I was looking at the puppies, a defiant little fat guy kept following me around. He was lighter than Rocky, but very independent from the other puppies. He even went out to poop far away from the other dogs. Well, he picked me, so I ended up with two puppies, one named Rocky, the other, Tubby.

Well, Tubby was a little stinker, and very defiant of my husband. When scolded, he would stick his chest way out, and sit there and stare down my husband. And, not listen to a word my husband said. My husband raised chickens, and Tubby decided they were toys to tear up. I would come home from work, and find Tubby with a bloodied body of a chicken, wings torn off, and mutilated. I was horrified that he would do such a thing, and started to call him little Saddam. Well, little Saddam killed alot of birds that year, so many that we ended up selling the rest. And, Saddam loved his new name. My husband would call him Tubby, but he did not want that name. He wanted to be called Saddam, a fitting name for a little tough guy who thought he could conquer the world. The name stuck, but many people find it awful. If they only knew the rest of the story. . .

Saddam is now the sweetest animal around. He loves to fetch, steal food from the table, and loves to instigate things. He will curl up with me in the armchair, all 85 lbs of him, and want to be a lap dog. I do not ever regret getting Saddam, in fact, he makes life exciting, and is the best buddy to his brother Rocky!!!

And, so if his name raises some eyebrows... it is his name and we are keeping it!!!!!
