I think the discussion over the tail isnt usually thought about. It is done when they are a few days old. Almost all breeders that I know of get them done so that is already done by the time you would get the pup. Have you ever felt a boxer with a tail.. Well you know how the zoomies come and the boxer burns and the boxer butt wiggle imagine all that with a big stick .. Ouch!!!! I like Layla's little nubbin......

Bella`s ears are definatly a little fly away and sometimes they even turn inside out, but she looks so cute.
Wouldn`t swap them for the world.
And yes i`d love her to of had a natural tail.

You're not alone in this. There are quite a few people who prefer the natural look. However, some people prefer the cropped look which is equally ok. It's a personal preference. A person who chooses to leave a dog's ears natural are not superior to anyone who chooses to crop. My boys were left natural because of my both my personal preference and the fact that I didn't want to go through all of the work involved. However, I don't look down at those who choose to crop.

And how much pain and suffering the poor fellows have to go through for the sake of a cosmetic alteration.
If the dog is brought to a vet who knows what he is doing and the crop is performed properly, there is relatively no pain or suffering. True, there may be some discomfort in which case medication can be administered.

Well ear cropping is banned here in the UK, so we don't really see many boxers who are cropped - but I don't mind either way.

The first boxer with cropped ears I really took any notice of was Brando's dad. We seen a photograph of him when we went to see Brando for the first time (he's an Italian dog so we didn't get to meet him in person), he is absolutely stunning and looks very noble with his cropped ears.

Brando does have quite big ears and they always go inside out when he runs into the wind! ha ha ha!

That's how I feel about it too...I think they would pack quite a whallop with that tail! Then I feel selfish because I'm the one that doesn't want to be whacked, or have stuff whacked off tables in the house. There is some possibility for tail injury also I guess.

You are right in that it is a decision a pet owner doesn't get to make becasue it is done already by the breeder. There are also a variety of quality of tail dockers out there, too.

I crop all of my guys and love the look of the cropped boxer. I have no problem with folks that don't want to crop. I give new owners the choice when they buy their pups. No problem--personal choice. I do keep all of the pups during their crop and until the sutures are removed. The pups are all together the night of their crop -- eating, playing and sleeping, just like the day before. Is it pain free? I am not going to say yes, but it is not the painful experience that some people imagine. Yes, there is very important aftercare. It can be very easy and only require a few tapings, but most require more. Some may take six or more months. They are in the minority, but you never know ahead of time. An ear with thick heavy leather will take more tapings.

As for vets and learning to crop in school. It has never been taught. I mark my pups ears. I had vets asking me to teach them how to do a nice crop over 25 years ago. These vets wanted to do a pleasing job and had not had any courses in school. Many vets choose not to crop for various reasons. Many do not believe in it and many have no artistic talent and can accept that. Too many crop and do a terrible job and know nothing about aftercare or taping. These are the vets that cause all of the horror stories and very painful experiences we have all heard. I have assisted people when their pup has problems from improper taping or vets who say after one or two tapings, the ears will never stand. It is all in knowing what you are doing.

So, yes, cropping is a choice. I like the look of the cropped dog. I love to rub their silky ears and it is one of their favorite lovings.

I know many dane's owners who have taugh their dog to control their tail!!! It's probably something essential when you have an undock boxer!:D

Yup Jaelle. A boxer with a tail is very much like a dane's tail. Long and packs a wolip. There can be injury to all breeds tails. I have seen some danes come into rescue and they had to have their tails docked. They look a little odd like that. Dobermans have skinnier tails and if left undocked they usually have to either learn to control it or end up hurting themselves. A boxers to me seems to be a little more fater like a labs tail. MOst people assume that a boxer with a tail must be a mix. B/c after all boxers are born with nubbs....lol

Samson and Delilah's ears are natural. They keep that puppy face more or less. I love the wrinkles and the puppy look.
