Okay, my husband and I are in disagreement on collars. He believes they should wear one at all times. I think only when they are outside. I always worry about them playing and getting teeth caught or getting one caught on the crate somehow in the middle of the night and strangling or something horrible such as that. How many of you leave your collars on your babies all the time and how many don't? I told him I was going to pose this question and whoever has the least responses has to oblige the other in their wishes. So here we go!

Waldo has his collar on the whole time,he's never crated, and there are no hazards he could get to during the day when we're at work to get tangled up in{I think the backyard is pretty Waldoproof}As soon as we get home,he's inside with us:)

Hello there,

Both Martin & Boulou wear their collars at all times. Martin is an inside dog, and he stays in the house while i'm at work while Boulou who lives with my mum roams freely in the yard but both are never without their collars. I only remove Martin's when we play in the sea because the sea salt damages the leather and then it becomes itchy...

Mackensie usually only wears her collar when we go somewhere. When she was a puppy, I always kept it on though so I could hear her jingle and know where she was, except for in her crate. You're correct that they should never wear their collar in the crate as it could catch on something and they could strangle.

Sarge only wears his when we're home and when we go places. I don't leave it on him when he's unattended.

Rolen only wears his when we go out with him! :) I sometimes put it on him when we are home as well. I always take his off when he's in his crate.

You could check around here on BW to find many stories of dogs getting hurt, choked, hung up on something, etc. Just recently I was reading about two Boxers playing and one had its mouth caught on the other's collar and choked the other to the point of passing out before the owner was able to cut the collar with scissors! I do not risk it. Cooper's collar always comes off before going in his crate or playing with other dogs. He usually just wears it when we are out walking or going places.

Roxi always wears her collar. My brother took it off of her just last night and put it on Annie, one of his boston terriers, just playing around. Roxi was quite upset and kept nudging the collar on Annie as if to say, "Hey!!! Wait a minute, that's mine!!! Give it back!" It was pretty funny.

Mine wear them outside only but I think it depends on the collar too. Obviously you would never leave a head halter on an unattended or playing dog. If it is a well fitting buckle collar, however, there is little fear of damage while playing. I would never leave a collar on a dog in a crate though. Some dogs need to wear them in the house for training or safety reasons so I think it depends to a certain extent on the dog :)
