I'm looking for a good, hearty (and somewhat spicy!) chili recipe. My family recipe is very good, but since I could eat chili almost once a week, my fiancé gets bored. We really like some chili beans, meats (lots!), peppers and some kind of thick chili sauce base. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hey Elgerdes (Emily), I'm from KY and my neice married a guy from Philly a few years ago and the first time he ate my chili he thought we were nutty, but after eating it is one of his favorite, birthday get togethers with our family. When I make chili of course it's with lots of ground beef, beans, and spaghetti noodles, and thats where he thought we were nuts as he has never had chili with noodles :) That's how my mother made it when we were kids, and thats how I make it. With lots, and lots of chili powder. If our noses don't run when we eat it, then it ain't chili, lol. Put it in a bowl with lots of shredded cheddar cheese and crackers. There is also a bottle of hot sauce on table in case it's still not hot enough. It's probably not the hearty chili that you are looking for but it's gooood! I just made a pot of chili yesterday and it's 90 degrees outside, but as with you, we love chili.

One of my favorites...

Spicy Lamb and Chorizo Chili Recipe at Epicurious.com

Sometimes I add some ground beef or I grind some of the lamb because I like that in a chili... but the chunks of lamb add great texture and flavor, so if you do use some ground beef or ground lamb... keep some of the lamb chunks to add that texture.... my wife LOVES this stuff.. and she's not a chili fan as a whole.

I've also made this adding some black beans into it.. so adding chili beans would be good too..

Thank you to you both! I had never thought of using noodles... but seeing as I love pasta too, this would be a nice twist!!!!

We have used ground turkey before, but never lamb or chorizo. I'm think my fiancé would love to have some chorizo in there!!!

Here is something you can add to your favourite chili recipe along with all your usual ingredents,I put in 1 or 2 cans of cream style corn depending on how big of a pot I am making.you still get to keep all the spicyness but with a hint of sweet.

white chili

Have you tried "WHITE CHILI" made with chicken and white beans? there is several ways to make it but when in a pinch you can buy white chili mix (McCormick's is what i use) and it is delicious. I have played around with several recipe's but we actually prefer the mix to any I have tried. I double the ingredients and use 2-3 envelopes of the mix witch makes it spicy.

Add some good ole southern corn bread and YUMMY!!!! hungryicon
