Canidae changing formula??

Well, let's see.... removing a main meat source,replacing a named fish meal with a generic one, adding another grain(barley), adding birdseed(millet),adding a few more questionable fillers(rice bran,oatmeal, tomato pumice) and then charging more for it on top of it all! So that's what an improvement is! Hmmm.......

Yep, an improvement to their BANK ACCOUNT LoL.

sorry to chime in on this late....but I am also disappointed to see that Canidae changed the formula. I thought something was up when Arty just wasn't the same on it.

Maybe I missed the memo....but some info I found says Diamond either bought Canidae, or is helping produce the food now. Could that have something to do with it?

Then again...that may be old news. I haven't been here in a while.

According to the e-mail I got from Canidae, they simply outgrew their "plant" and had to start having Diamond help manufacture it however they did not buy them nor do they own Canidae and Canidae is still doing their own checks and balances on quality...so I was told anyway.

Also Canidae is supposed to be coming out with a grain free formula in a few months so you may want to check their site periodically to see if and when that comes out if you're interested.

talk about odd timing then. If you want to change ingredients, I can understand that. May not agree with it (it didn't agree with Arty), but ok.

But to at the same time be using a plant from a different manufacturer?

That's like Ford saying our plant is to small, so we are going to use GM plants. By the way, it's no longer the Ford engine you use to know.

we did try the new formula. Canidae was always the fallback I could rely on if I was trying a different food that wasn't working. Arty and Tyson were on Back to Basics (yeah, corn in it, but I have to say, they never looked better and the poop was easy to deal with). Because of the price, I went back to Canidae since it was so nicely priced.

The price went up and the quality IMO went way down. Stools were no longer small and firm like they were originally on Canidae. Their gas ended up coming back again, which had gone away when we first switched over.

Has anyone tried feeding the new formula? I know a few people who had dogs on the old formula so they tried the new one and the poop volume nearly doubled. I am so disappointed in their change. I hope enough people stop buying it and they will realize what a mistake they made.

I did. My boy's feces became yellow and MUCH looser, he also had very audible (although not smelly) gas, would pace during these times as I think he was just uncomfortable, got tear stains for the first time in his life as well.

Do the bags indicated that the product is the new formula? I just bought a bag this week-end and it doesn't look or say anything different. I'd like to watch to see if I notice any difference in the dogs but don't know if it's new or not.

Read the ingredients. My bag didn't look any different but the ingredient panel was. There was barely, tomato pomace, peas, and ocean fish meal (instead of herring meal) added among a couple of other things.

i am still feeding the new formula
i feed less (1/2 cup less) and the poop became normal!

i stick to it because i have been changing forever (gas - poop- problem) and my choices are limited with my doggies only ok on lamb and rice formulas.

it's alright food - still much better than nutro so i am sticking with it.. (i hjave to say, my Snatch has never been better than when he was on nutro... silly dog!)

The Canidea bag is different

The bag is different the new formula has pictures of the real animals they use in it. While the old bag has drawn pictures of the animals.
