It looks like they are now changing all of the formulas not just the Lamb and rice and definitely not for the better. Many people (including myself) are e-mailing the company to voice our disappointment in the new change. But just wanted to give people a head's up that they are changing all of their formulas.

I just found this out as well. My supplier showed me the paper that the distributer gave her outlining the formula changes. I am really ticked that they are doing this! Now I have to find a new food, which I am sure is going to mean many more $$$$$. I would have gladly paid a little more if they would have just left it alone. They USED to be a good food at a reasonable price.

I just emailed them too. I am not happy about the changes either. I think I will try and find some more older bags and put them in my freezer for now.

I am going to try California Natural's Sweet Potato and Herring and see how my colitis pup does on it. It isn't too much more in my area than Canidae.

same here! got to change! i am so pissed! :(

You're telling me. I tried a bunch of foods but since my dog has colitis it was a NIGHTMARE to say the least. The only food I found that worked for him was Canidae and now they've changed it. Stool wise he's doign okay but he's much more gassy and he has tear stains which he has never had. So NOT happy!

I received the following generic form from Canidae (as I heard everyone else received emailed them) expressing concern and disappointment that they had changed their formula. I told them that I had planned to switch Barron's food source, but they didn't seem to care about that since they made no mention of it.

Dear Cindy,

We believe in quality first; Quality to your Pets and to you, our valued consumer. New data and information in pet nutrition has enabled us to diversify our complex carbohydrates to improve both the nutritional benefits and palatability. Furthermore, Worldwide commodity shortages are real, and we feel will only worsen, especially on Rice. We feel it would be an injustice to our consumers if we did not foresee potential commodity shortages that would either make our products unavailable or so costly no one could afford them. Our improvements have increased palatability, improved digestibility and dogs simply love it! Our improvements are testimonial to our commitment to excellence in providing you and your pets with the most nutritional, most advanced pet foods available.

Sincerely,
Team Canidae

What a load of crap! Do you they really expect anyone to believe that feeding your dog BIRDSEED is better for them? An improvement over rice?
I haven't e-mailed them yet and I can see now it would be a waste of time. Maybe a huge drop in sales will get the message through to them that no one is buying their "improvement" pitch.

I went onto the Canidae website and cut and paste the old and new formula to compare. They changed the ingredients around quite a bit and deleted "chicken" altogether from the new formula. Well, let's see.... removing a main meat source, replacing a named fish meal with a generic one, adding another grain(barley), adding birdseed(millet),adding a few more questionable fillers(rice bran, oatmeal, tomato pumice) and then charging more for it on top of it all! So that's what an improvement is! Hmmm.......
