Love the water

I have two boxer that are bother from the same litter. Jay the oldest he loves the water he jumps and splashes and loves to drink out of the water fountain and his water sprinkler. I just got them a pool and he loves it. Mikey Jay's brother he hates the water but loves to play in mud puddles after its rains. I think it is normal but depends on the trust of the dog for water. Jay is 17 months old and still loves the water!!!!!

I think a common trait is learning - not the things your try to teach them, but the things they consider interesting. Pisu, 6 years old, learned the difference between a fly and a mosquito. If you tell him there is a fly in the house, he will start looking in the air to find it. On the other hand, if you tell him to find the mosquito, he will look strait at the walls, and climb on sofas and chairs to take a closer look at spots on the wall. He also likes to swim, and “save” every rock that is on the bottom of the lake or river. He actually holds his breath while he is underwater.

Another thing he learned is when we open the building door. If someone calls from downstairs, you have to press 9 to open the door. As soon as the phone rings, he watches you closely, and when you hit 9 to open the door and you put the phone down, he will run to the apartment door and starts whining until the person comes upstairs.

I love boxers and their personalities.

Barking

Austin barks at EVERYTHING! He lays on my bed where he can see out the window and barks at anyone he sees. He's an excellent watchdog, but sometimes the barking can get pretty annoying. When the doorbell rings he howls!

Sammie & I have been out of town quite often in the last few months, so I haven't had a chance to read all of the "traits" posted.

Although we have all posted many times on the same wonderful things our boxers DO alike, I would like to post on what I feel is the same trait they all seem to have........that makes us love, adopt, buy, rescue & cherish them. It's their eyes! One look into a boxer's eyes & you've looked into their soul....or maybe into your own soul!!

IMO there are very few dogs that have this special trait. Possibly a Golden Retriever or St. Bernard. But by far, the boxer has this innate quality. Maybe I'm prejudiced.........but, anyone who TRULY looks deep into their eyes, is a boxer lover forever :)

You are so right, their eyes hold all the love and are indeed mirrors to their sweet souls. I have a very sick boxer right now and his little eyes are so sad, yet when I talk to him and tell him how much I love him I know by his eyes that he gets comfort. My baby boxer has mischief in his little eyes and you are right this is a trait that seems to belong to boxers. There is a chocolate lab next door to me who has pretty expressive eyes also, she is a sweet dog too. Maybe it's just because our boxers are such sweet tempered, loving companions and yes we are definitely predjudiced.kingicon angelicon

all of the above and more

fiesta1ico understands commands in French and Englishgradicon. Always reads my moods and knows when I need a huglovicon. Hardly ever needs a leashappicon. Laughs when he runs:LOL: We learn more about our babies everyday, we would never change a thing, not even the gas:eek: when he does it, it makes us laugh out loud.:D

I was thinking about this thread this weekend when I was walking my 3 year old female fawn Kiley. Sometimes when she pees she wants to "mark her territory" not on the ground but up a little higher on a tree or a snow bank. So when she is faced with this situation what she will do instead of squatting and not hitting her mark, she gets in her squatting position and then she raises her butt and her rear legs so she is balancing on her front two legs and pees. Mission accomplished!!! We laugh our heads off!!!::

Re: Kiley

I can't believe it. Bailey does this too. Not so much to pee but the second one - he'll back his butt up on maybe a fence, small tree or bush and then go. When he did this on someone's fence, I was so busy laughing I didn't see the scowl on the owner's face. I picked it up of course but it was a little more difficult since some landed on the fence and the rest on the ground. Oops!

And the other night, Bailey had a fun filled evening with his favorite retriever (they play pretty hard and long). So the next day we went off to work. Usually when we come home for lunch, he's right at the door as he would have heard us. But yesterday, we walk in and nothing. So we crept to the sun room and there he was - sound asleep on the couch - face all scrunched up, paws moving periodically. Then he jolted awake to find us both staring at him. The look on his face was hilarious. My husband says "harumph, some watch dog!". Don't know what I would do without him.

I haven't owned my boxer long enough to really know all their traits, but he was doing some really weird things last week. Like chasing his tail until he was so dizzy he couldn't walk. Then he would fall over and then get up and start all over again. My family thought that there was something wrong with him and told me he was probably imbred:mad: !! So I would like to know if this is a normal thing:confused: !

Dreams???

Hey!!! GOOD ONE! I've noticed that Buc has some serious Doggie Dreams!!! He's ALWAYS twitching paws, making funny noises, growling, etc. I had worried that Buc was mute for the longest as he didn't bark until shortly after his first birthday, however, my fears were laid to rest when once he barked IN his DREAM, the funny thing was is that it woke him up and had scared him. You should of seen the paranoid look on his face like 'oh my goodness, what was THAT?'. Anyone else have super dreaming dog?:o Is that a Boxer trait.

And yes, Buc also spins around like a top BEFORE going number 2 and will also back up onto bushes and fences to do it. Yes, it is quite a bit more ummmm interesting to pick up.

CRAZY!!!
