Boxer Traits

My Gracie loves water. She swims in the pool all summer and if the jacuzzi is going, you can't get her out until she's all limp and then you have to carry her out and put her to bed. She does not, however, like rain. Getting her to go outside to go potty when it is raining is worse than pulling teeth. Watching a Boxer try to tippy toe so she doesn't get her feet wet is hilarious. I think she likes warm and wet but not cold and wet. George doesn't like to swim but he doesn't mind getting wet in the rain or through sprinklers. I'm not sure about Porter, this will be our first summer with him. He didn't mind going out in the rain to go potty though. I think the water thing is dependent on each dog's individual personality. I would try taking your dog in the shower and starting with warm water. If he doesn't get upset, it was probably just cold water in the puddle he didn't like. If he doesn't like the warm water either, I would invest in those wet-wipe like pet bath cloths.

wet wipes

The wet wipes I use on his feet its a game still "lets eat it". I'll try the shower, but I won't tell anyone about it yet. My kids love him but they won't understand. They think I'm crazy.

the shower is the easiest way to bath your dog....and they love the warm water inside as opposed to the cold water outside. i have been bathing my dogs in the shower for about 15 years now. At first friends thought I was ccrazy until they tried it and found out how easy it was. No mess to clean up, no water all over the place when the dog decides to shake, and my wife and I have it down pat. I shower with Bodie, tell him to shake, which he now does on command, then dry off most of the water in the shower. Next, I pass him off to Salena, who gives him a second dry down in the bathroom and he is good to go. We do this at least once a week, and always get praises for how clean he smells and how soft his coat is. And since he loves getting baths, tries to climb in even when it isn't his bath time, it makes it that much easier.

I was under the impression that boxers didn't need to be bathed that often. Removes the natural oils or something to that effect. Unless of course some uncontrolled issue arouse, roll in the mud or something stinky and/or dead, play with a skunk.

You get my meaning? .:confused:

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have always worked with "the dog smells he gets a bath" theory.

You know my favorite boxer or at least my Tank's trait is the having to have something in his mouth when he greets anyone. It is so funny watching him get all excited when we come in and let him out of the dog run or crate he looks around for something to have in his mouth. He just goes nuts until he has something in his mouth. Greta doesn't do that, but Tank is so cute he just can't stop himself. He also likes to have something in his mouth when he walks around the block. he is my cute weird little boy actually my 72 lb little boy. Greta she is sweet and so hyper when we let them out that she wiggles and runs around pratically on the ground for about 5 minutes and can't seem to stop herself. She is precious. She also won't play with us instead during playtime she barks at us and then tries to come from behind and "push" off you and bite your back. She also loves to play with the hose chasing it and grabbing drinks from it. She doesn't care about rain at all. Tank used to love it now he hates it. They are so great I love my furkids.

Tanks sounds like my parents' labs and my brother's Chessie Retriever, they always have to have something in their mouths, of course, that's b/c they're all retrievers.

Sam can't greet anyone without something in his mouth. Whenever we come home, he runs to find something to put in his mouth before coming to say hello, or he'll say hello quickly, run away, and return with something in his mouth while kindey beaning!

Anyone's puppy spin in circles while preparing and putting down their food?

I am glad Tank is not the only one that does that greeting or Offering. Roscoe is a boston but he jumps in circles when preparing and while giving him his food. Greta is picky she eats when she feels like it. They are so great I love boxers and dogs

I have done a lot of research on the Boxer and have never heard of not being able to bath them because of natural oils. Bodie usually gets his bath once a week, and at least every other week. We use a flea shampoo recommended and used by our vet. This keeps him smelling good and flea free, which also helps keep the worms away since they are transmitted by fleas. Bodie has never had any skin of coat problems due to the bathing and the compliments on his soft fur never cease. I would be interested to know where you heard that, because my wife works for our Vet. and he approves of our bathing ritual. Hope this helps, no one should have to live with a dirty dog, unless they want. And since Bodie has flash on his feet, we like it when they are clean.
