Boxer Traits

We've only had Ally for 3 weeks now, but have seen a couple of these. The front leg bounce is the most prominent, but another is related to leaning. When I sit on the floor, she'll walk up to sit in my lap, force her head between my arm and side, then start pushing in and up, lifting my arm up, till her butt's in my lap and her neck's in my armpit, so her head is sticking out to the side/rear of me, behind my shoulder. She does this almost every time I sit down on the floor, and always to my left arm.

I think she's too young to be psychic :) , but I had pretty major surgery on my left shoulder in November and this "trick" of hers is actually good for me by forcing me to work on my range of motion at a time that I would normally just let the arm drape.

How about something I call "jack hammering"...
someone else might have mentioned it in here already but I haven't read down that far.
Our last two boxers have done this - while in a playful mood (well, when aren't they?!) they come up behind you and give you a good push on the butt or back. Sometimes they do it from the front too on your chest or belly. With our boxers anyway, it seems to be something they only do to the people they are closest to - me, my husband or the kids.

Also, our Gretchen used to back up to our older girl, Mazey, and try to sit on her head! It looked hilarous and Mazey just let her do it and never seemed to mind. And Mazey was the "gueen bee" until she got really old and Gretchen kind of took over the top spot.

One more thing I have to add is sleeping with my clothes. My spoiled Sadie will grab anything of mine or my husbands that she can find and drag it up on the bed with her.

It's so funny to see all of her quirks listed by everyone else :)

My favorites are: loving the blow dryer, loving water, etc...

Mojo has shown all of the above traits over the last 9 years. He also talks like Chewbacca, and he has always wanted to sit on someone. Not necessarily in your lap though, If your in a chair or standing he will sit ON your feet.
He is also very protective of my daughter (she is 10 months). If someone comes in the house that he doesn't know he will very casually make sure that he is always be in the direct path between them. He does it very casually so that they don't even notce he's done it. We didn't even notice it at first until we paid attention.

Most Amazing Dog! A little long but worth the read!

I've read all the boxer traits and being loyal and protective is a given. I want to share something with you. This still gives me goosebumps. My hubby has a very bad heart condition so getting Jerry as a companion for him has been great. Jerry gets my hubby out for his walks and has kept him alive. In more ways than one. Two years ago when Jerry was only 7 months old my hubby fell down in the ditch in our back yard. Jerry stayed with hubby and then helped drag him to our front door. My hubby had broken his ankle in 2 places. It took my husband over 2 hours to get to the door but Jerry wouldn't leave his side and helped push him to the door. Two weeks later Jerry fell in our kitchen and broke his back leg. I had the two of them in casts. Jerry chewed off 2 of his if I remember correctly. Hubby wanted to do the same but his teeth werent' quiet so strong.
Last month I was at work and received a call from my father. I had to come home immediately. My husband had gone for his usual morning walk and run with Jerry down to the duck pond a few miles away from our home, when he started having chest pain. His nitro did nothing to relieve his pain so he knew he was having another heart attack. Unable to move very much he didn't think he would make it back to the car to get home. He thought he was going to die in the field. He still cries when telling this part.......Jerry stood on his hind legs and pushed my husband up a small incline and kept pushing him slowly until they got to the car. Jerry licked his face over and over again in the car. My husband made it home and was in hospital for over 10 days. He suffered more damage to his heart but is still alive because of Jerry.
Did Jerry know something was wrong? I think he did. Do our friends believe this story? I dont' know. I believe Jerry is an angel put here on earth to keep my husband alive just a little bit longer for me. They are inseparable. I give Jerry a special Kiss every day to watch over my hubby until I get home from work. And he does.

That's an incredible story Nita. I have tears in my eyes over the love and devotion that Jerry shows to your husband. You have been blessed. Hugs to Jerry, and my thoughts go out to your husband.

I think God knew what he was doing when he gave us dogs, and your story about Jerry proves it once again. Thanks for the wonderful story! Prayers for your husband and his health and thank God for our wonderful boxers - three cheers for Jerry!

Before I get finished sweeping, we are playing chase the broom. It is absolutely hilarious. It would just be boring doing the house work without a boxer trying to help.

LOL, I laughed so hard it seemes like I was there to see it. Thanks for the laugh!

My dogs run at the sight of the vacumn cleaner. Our Boston Terrier will run for a little bit, then crouches way down and barks as meanly as he can muster. It's hilarious. Apollo the Boxer hasn't really had a chance to get used to the vacumn.
