Ri Ri's Mom

Priscilla's Mom

Hello Priscilla's Mom thanks so much for responding back. To answer your question Riley is two and a half. He has been doing this forever. He doesn't stop when I tell him to, but he stops when my fiance tells him to(although my fiance has to repeat himself at least 2-3 times) Riley listens to Dad much better than mom. Riley will also start barking if someone walks by the house. I can tell when he is giving his protective bark or play bark. However, I can't seem to break him of this bad habit. I tryed putting pennies in a jar and rining that when he started, I tryed throwing chains on the kitchen floor, ( a loud noise training technique) He doesn't respond to any of it. I really don't know what else to do. I went to a traininer but he seemed really harsh. Any Ideas????

Oh boy! It does sound like you have tried all the recommended methods. Do you have a specific playtime with Ri Ri? Maybe he needs a schedule of rock n roll playtime, walktime, or specific attention time. A friend of ours puts on leather gloves, and his boxer knows it's rough housing time. When they're off - calm down and regular routine. Bailee craves the wrestling, etc., and when she doesn't get it, she does tend to come up and shove the toys in our faces! Maybe that will help, although you more than likely have tried this. Good luck!

Hi
All same as Copper!
Add not just drools but head shakes that send the drools flying round the room. I love you mum look head on knee - lift head and youre covered in slobbers! Tissues are the most handy things!
My first boxer was a chocoholic. We had to put bars on all cupboards and she found out how to open them! She would take flour, sugar, plain biscuits, jars etc out, lay them neatly on the floor or bench whilst she demolished anything with chocolate on it. Of course she left the wrappers! No self respecting boxers would eat wrappers and all.
My father once got a big box of belgium chocs. He had one out of the box. Left it down and nodded off. We found it later that day behind a chair - nothing left. "Jo" laying on the sofa with a big smirk on her face. Yes I know all about chocolate being bad for them BUT she was never given any - she just helped herself! It never annoyed her either and she lived to the ripe old age of nearly 13. Broke my heart and took a huge chunk with her.
Babe brings me her toys and sets them down - she waits until I am engrossed in my favourite TV shows! Too often not to be deliberate and who could resist those big brown eyes!
Snuggling up to you on the sofa, leaning against you - trying to get right under your skin to be close to you. When youre standing they come up and lean against your leg.
Once youve had a Boxer - you will always have one!

GAS, GAS GAS!!!! Oh my goodness! A definite trait. My boy likes to do the front leg bounce too. It is hilarious!! He also lays on his back with his legs in the air and his head to the side like he had an extremely rough day LOL!! He also loves to play chase, but we have to chase him most of the time. He is a the best!

hover your foot ..

Yes, Niko does the same thing, she will roll over to her back on top of your foot for you to take your foot/feet to rub her belly. She also will 'ride' your foot to get a rub. She has been known to 'hover' over my girls head while watching tv or something, so their 'heads' will 'rub' her belly.... If one of them is laying on the floor, she will hover over them so they would look up, so she could get her belly rubbed .. when we have company, she will sit sideways just to get them to rub/scratch her hind .. she will nudge you if you stop....

To be honest with you i haven't read all the posts....so forgive me if i'm repeating, but when we got Ali the breeder we got her from gave us a list of boxer traits, here are a few -

BOXER GLOSSARY

Full butt lean - When a boxer comes up on the couch & stands over you while you're watching TV. Front feet on one side and back an the other. Then when they're ready they just throw their backside onto you somewhere between your chest & lap.....as if they're too lazy to stand up.

Heavy Head - When your boxer places their head on your lap...like it's just too heavy for them to hold up

Inverted kidney bean - When a boxer lies on their backs with all fours in the air squirming back & forth

Kidney bean - wiggle from side to side....so heads & bums almost meet....there is a slow & fast version of this!

Life with boxers - is like a box of chocolates - "you never know what you're going to get".....but they're all yummy!

Lip flip - the ability to unknowingly flip the upper lip underneath showing teeth....we call it the tough look (yeah right!!)

Mexican stand off - boxer will suddenly "freeze" & stare at each other face to face not moving until one gives in and pounces.

Mouth wrestling - 2 boxers play by opening their mouths wide & facing off touth to touth.... no biting just lots of noise!

Peanut butter stuck to the roof of the mouth - Where they just lap at nothing...throw head back & lick & lick.

Pile or Stacks on- sleeping arrangement that consists of people & boxers

Sawing logs - when a boxer snores ( & Matt....LOL)

Scooby Doo Run - run on the spot to get started (this one makes me laugh so hard)

Snubble - when your boxer walks beside you and nudges your hand with their snout....usually with accompanied by a grin...can be forceful snubble or gentle snubble

Tongue getting stuck - licking and then pause mid-lick

Transition dog - a dog you own while waiting to own a boxer

Wedge - climbing behind someone and settling down until the boxer has pushed the person of the chair

Wiggle talk - words/phrases that inspire the boxer to wiggle (tone of the voice is important here) ie "Good boy Eric" or "Lets go in the car"

Woo Woo - self explaintory

Yoga Stretch - Butt as high as it will go .... front paws steched in front.

There are heaps more.... but these where the main ones i think!

i registered just bc of the boxer traits!

after i saw this list, i HAD to comment. we own a 2 year old princess named Karma, or Karmageddon when she's naughty. A whole new vocabulary sprung up with her. karma exhibits a lot of the traits listed. she kidney beans & woowoos. she also runs "like the devil is chasing" her, but we always said "karma is doing her laps." she likes to throw things under furniture for me to get. drools. snores. poots. tries to swim... she wipes her eye boogers on the bedspread, or her brother (a spaniel mix), or his bed. here are a few more things for everyone to ponder:

The Corncob Nibble--the ticklish gentle nibble in a row (like how people eat corn on the cob)

The Spin Move--a distraction tactic during wrestle/chase games w/ other dogs. she spins around really quickly & the other dog usu. jumps back, then she gets a good nip in!

Claw Hand--must not be underestimated. she can pull things off counters, tables, use a computer mouse... she spreads her fingers like a human, not a paw

Baby Kill--when she just needs to teach her toys a lesson, but not destroy them. she holds the toy in her mouth & gently shakes side to side.

Nurses!!! karmi was spayed at 1 year old and has never had puppies but she tries to nurse our feet! we didn't realize what she was doing until we saw her exact facial expression on a nursing fox on TV! i tested the theory & if you place your foot too high on her side or too forward on her chest she'll reposition herself over the foot so it's right under her nipples.

Kills Venetian blinds--i think they're her worst enemy bc no matter where we are (our old apt, our new house, grandma's) she smashes & breaks all the blinds.

well, that's all i can think of for now!

Robyn - you are right on the money! Jake has all the same characteristics as Cooper. I love when he lays on his back, or when he rests his head on me. The random zipping around the backyard is the one that cracks me up the most! The Woo Woo Song is second, although he only does that for my husband (his "playmate" :) ).

Yes Suzanna Jake sounds a lot like our Boxer male Luther. He likes to run around like a mad thing, doesn't like to be told off and also has all the traits of Cooper. aren't they lovely, we love Luther more than life itself. He also thinks my wife is his playmate.
