Boxer Traits

Izzy, my 7-mos old female, will get a toy a bring it to me to play. It starts out by placing it on the ground near me. If I dont grab at it she puts it on the couch by me. If still no response it is on my lap. If I still ignore her (or I am sleeping) she jumps up and shoves it in my face until I grab the toy and toss it. Then she repeats it over again. She never seems to do this to my wife only me.
Another trait is the Boxer stomp. She will use her front paws to stomp on the ground or on me repeatedly. I am sure you all have probably felt this and it can hurt at times even though she is only a puppy still.
Cant say enough good things about the breed.

Emma does that pouncy thing too but she is only 4 months old. Thankfully she hasnt tried it on me....I believe that would hurt! She has also started doing the frog dog...it is so CUTE frogicon
We live in Buffalo, NY and Emma absolutely LOVES the snow! (I hope so we got over 7 feet! ) She gets totally spazzy in it. She grabs mouthfuls of it and throws it. She hops around like a giant rabbit! I think she just loves all the exercise and energy she uses running thru it! We start obedience school next week with her! Her VERY independent and strong willed nature make it an absolute necessity! Are all boxers stubborn and somewhat defiant? OR is it the age? IF so, when does it end!? All I have to say is I cant wait until the teething stage ends...I'd like to have at least one pair of shoes left! clowicon :)

I do love to read about all our boxer children. Our Jerry is the best and the worst of our lives. The worst being the flatulance! He has embarrassed us on more than one occasion. * the noise*and by golly the *smell* He then has the nerve to look at his end parts in amazement!! Like did I just do that? And what is with that slobber? Oh My! Get dressed to go to work or to go out, its like a race to get out the door before Mister (Jerry) spots you and leaves his mark on you. I sometimes look at him in wonderment laying on his back all open for the world to admire. He is so beautiful. Sometimes when Mister(Jerry) and my husband are asleep in our King Size bed -him on his pillow all covered up to his neck- I wonder; why did I give up my place in my bed next to my husband of 18 years to this Dog?*I sleep on approximately 8inches of bed now.* Dog you say? This is no ordinary dog! This is our flatulance, face drooling, face sliding, head weary, beautiful gift from above- Jerry! Our lives were so boring without him. And smelled better also! * Gotta love him! When he want to go do his job he takes his leash in his mouth and lays his head on your lap until you finally say OK!!..He is the boss no doubt about it! We just Love him to pieces!! Smell and all!...

I agree with most of the replies. Ollie loves to lye on her back, run around like a maniac, loves to cuddle, chases her tail daily, makes the wooing sound, and so many of the other things that people have mentioned. Has anyone had a problem with flatulence? Ollie is pretty bad about that and also burping!!!

Most expression

I must agree with ALL the wonderful traits mentioned but all in all I think our boxers have the MOST expressive faces of ANY dog!I mean with those lovable furrows on their forehead, they can look so worried! And grinning ear to ear with their "snow shovel" sized toungues, they seem to be laughing at us (or with us!)-and those BIG brown SOULFUL eyes that can almost melt your heart!! I've NEVER before had a breed that was so great!appicon

I think boxers have a language of snorting and blowing that has meaning to each other. I never really noticed it when we just had one but I do now that we have 3. Anyone have a comment on this trait.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is probably one of the most recognized sounds in our home besides "get down"!
We have three of these wonderful dogs and yesterday we celebrated the new year with 8 new ones!!! I have been a boxer owner my entire life and will never own a different breed for a family pet.
A few other traits that we notice in our dogs is jealousy of one another! It is really cute, not nasty. They are actually worse than my skin kids! They will butt their noses in over and over again. Wiggling the entire time and then turning the rear end right towards us. Then they just slowly and slyly try to climb in your lap. LIKE YOU COULD MISS AN 85LB DOG CRAWLING ON TOP OF YOU!!!!!!
Another and probably one of the most important to me is their protectiveness. I haven't really noticed any posts here about this particular trait, but I would like to share a story with you. When I was in high school I live across the street from a serial rapist and killer. Of course we didn't know this, but Hans did! Everytime this boy came over to the house Hans would stand in front of me with hackles up! Two years after our graduation he was caught. Thank God, but I will never forget Hans' intuition. I possibly saved my life. I have seen a boxer literally sacrifice himself to save a human life and I truly believe any one of my three precious babies would do it for my family.
We boxer owners are truly lucky people!
Not to mention when the grandparents come to visit we take bets on which one of our many kids will get to the lap first!!!

drooling babies

so they do drool! my mom grew up with boxers and she tells me she had 5 all together and none of them drooled. i've heard they do and they don't. i guess it just depends on the pup?

Our Ripley fits all of these traits except the woo woo song wich I wish she did. Another trait is jealousy. If I am Kissing my wife or let our loso opso sit in my lap she starts pounding on us with her to front paws like a jackhammer. and wont quit until we give her all of our attention. Then she just looks at us as if to say I dont know what yall were thinking.

Boxer Traits continues

We got her for my daughter's birthday and they are pals. When Rachel started school this year Maxie started tearing up the house. She never tore anything up until school started and now when we leave the house nothing can be left within her reach. That includes remote controls, batteries and cell phones.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Believe it or not the best thing we have been able to come up with is to leave the T.V. on. They get so used to our presence and turn spiteful when they they are deprived of it. Our oldest tore up our Christmas tree one year and the couch! That was an expensive year!!!

WooHoo Song?!

I have heard this before ... but I am not sure what it is ... Niko does everything and more as your babies .. she 'prolly does this woohoo thing .. but I am not sure what it is to see if she does do it ... hubby thinks that she is the BIGGEST sigher in the world. When it is bedtime she will jump in bed (yes she LOVES to sleep in a spoon with ME!) sleepicon and sigh until daddy says "stop it"! huff huff huff really loud! She will do that also if we are talking or cuddling she will spend an hour huffing ... she also loves babies toes and ears .. if a new baby is around the first thing she goes for is their neck then ears and licks their toes. She has spend all her years around newborns, toddlers, strangers and more .. she is so well known on our block!

Even though she smells so much like fritos!
