Boxer Traits

Boxer Buddy
I've seen many of the traits listed also. One that hasn't been mentioned is if something is a step or two away from him, instead of moving his hind legs Taz will stretch to the point his tummy is on the floor. It looks like a doggie limbo dance!

I'm not quite sure what is kidney beaning is, can someone explain it for me?

Kidney beaning is when they walk sideways towards you with their heads almost touching their tails :D

Good subject...too much fun! My boxer boy, Monte, does all the above; he's very athletic when he races around (he enjoys sprinting very fast) and bounces off on all fours HIGH into the air. He's crazy nuts with excitement when I come home. Smart...enough to tease when playing. (he likes to play keep away with the ball rather than fetch even tho he will fetch the ball) He doesn't like to swim either (kinda sinks frailing around with his front paws) but LOVES to bite at spraying water playfully...did I mention he LOVES to PLAY and wants others to interact in his games. Even clowns around to get attention. Very adept with using their front paws. I had to change the french lever handle on my front door because he was very clever in opening the front door (this started since he was less than 8 mos. old) O, you have to rotate their toys, 'cause they get bored with the same ol' ones. Snorts and snores and kidney bean wiggles...gotta love 'em! ...and they're very good with other pets and children; Monte sleeps with my cat (it helped that he grew up with him). Best family dog ever!

We had to change the way the door opens because Cody has figured out how to open the lever door....and he now knows how to turn a doorknob...lol. All at the ripe age of 4 mo...lol

All of the above :D

Snores (currently doing this)
Farts
Loves to lay across your legs
Kidney beans like crazy when let out of his crate. It's the "LOOK AT MY BUTT" dance.
Wiggles (with and without snorts)
Loves to wrestle and box with other dogs
Sprints like a lunatic at the park
Woo woo and other sounds I've never heard another dog make

Gas, gas, gas!!
On your lap, like she was a 10 lb. pup!
Snorts like a pig!
Gallops like a horse after a toy!
When she has a new toy, she talks, whines and barks at it!
Kidney bean - we call it wiggle butt!
Loves, loves, loves her morning walk every day, then goes crazy running around in circles and figure eights in the backyard!
Licks your face, the air, anything she can find!
Leaps off all four legs high into the air!
Woo-wooing and barking when a boat goes by!
And of course the foam when she is playing with the neighbor dogs!

We love her so much!

Gunner does it all

all that has been mentioned plus....
while I am on computer he has to lay his head on the keyboard of the lap top. I think he likes the clicking. There are pictures of this on my picture website. Oh and mis-spelled word... I know how to spell, I just have to work around his head. ; -)
He also walks around crying if someone is sitting in his chair (my chair really) and has not invited him up.
In bed.. He loves to walk across you and drag and stretch his body across and plop down on top. Usually very uncomfortable for me but I wouldnt dare move him since he likes it so much. Loves to sit on my face or anyone else that is laying down. Very dangerous with the whole gas problem. Our son has a brindle named Jager - I have never had such sloppy kisses. He is also known as "the grimlin". When they come to stay the weekend, he is our alarm clock very early. Our two like to sleep until 10 or 11. Let's just say they give him "the look" when he comes bouncing in.

I will ALWAYS OWN A BOXER!!!

Things my boxers do...

Nessea
loved to lick the bathtub dry after someone is done taking a shower/bath
gas, yes, gas
would use her nub to keep the vet from taking the temp down there!
lick, lick, did I say lick
would play frisbee untl her gums bleed
counter surfer and trash can sniffer
She would also lay on the top part of the couch like a cat, and thought she was a lap dog. If anyone was on the couch she would wiggle her way in to a seat, even when you thought there was no room

Faith
wants to lick me when I get out of the shower...ewww
wiggles every inch of her body in excitement (kindey beaning I guess)
gives hugs and dances with kids
gets the Zoomies - runs around like a maniac, but looks like she is practicing for some marathon - very serious, then lays down and goes to sleep!!!

Very smart, sensitive, and precious!!! Boxers - how anyone could not love them if beyond me!

Boxer Buddy
Anyone has a crawling boxer?

A few days ago I fell on this thread and I just love it! Can’t stop reading and recognize my Buddy time and again. Kidney-beaning when he sees us and flee-biting on my ears whenever he gets a hold of them. Except for the woo-woo-ing – I’ve never heard that. But he grunts, growls, squeaks and above all “mumbles” in his sleep.

What I haven’t read about is “walking on his back”. Buddy throws himself on the back and then starts “walking” like a worm all over the grass . He does it only when he is out in the garden. Wonder if it has to do with the great feeling of grass under him?

Another thing is crawling. He’d lie on his belly and literally starts crawling with all four legs. After a few minutes he’d get up, stretch the front and the back (looks like a stretch limo), shakes violently his whole body from tip to toe and walks away with that special side look as if to say “Great, ha?”.

The last thing I find weird: if he gets a fresh bone he’d take it, run to a carpet, drop it and start a dancing attack on it with barking, growling and boxing at that “thing”. Suddenly he would drop himself and lay his head next to the bone, eyeing it carefully. It takes him something like half an hour until he finally starts chewing on it.

He does the same if he can get a hold of a lizard (he loves to eat them!) or a cockroach in the garden. But there he'd put his head on top of them - maybe for the tickle? The latter he would toss around, grab it, toss it … until they’re dead and then ignore it.

As for the gas – he does it very seldom and then gets this guilty-embarrassed look. My vet told me to put every day 3 tblsp of yoghourt in his food which I do. It seems to help with him.

All in all: we just love him madly and he brightens our life

My girl SuzyQ love her frisbee, but she doesn't really like for you to throw it. She gets it on the ground and alternately pushes it with her nose and jumps on it with her feet and slings it 10 or so feet and then chases it and pounces again. All the while she is growling and barking at it. Needless to say this is very hard on the lawn and she is relegated to the field next to our house which is really hardy mowed down weeds etc. This is better than putting a kid in front of the TV, when I am out working in my yard I just toss her the Frisbee and she does this until she has exhausted herself and must lie down. I have never had a dog do this before, does anyone elses boxer do this?

Tiger is my third boxer baby and so far, at the tender age of 16 weeks, he has displayed the following common boxer behaviour that our first two boxers had:

kidney beaning
jackhammering
big sighs
resting his oh-so-heavy head in our hands (or laps)
killing his stuffed toys
running in zig zags at full speed around the garden
barking at, and pouncing on, every broom, brush, dustpan that he sees
snoring

Tiger also likes chasing his tail which Mozart would also do, even though his tail was docked very short by his breeder (poor guy).

The only trait Tiger doesn't have that both Cassie and Mozart had in huge amounts is the bad gas! I am putting this down to our new diet of raw meat and bones! We always fed our first two dogs on a good quality dry food - they both died from cancerous tumors (mass cell) at the age of 6 and 7 respectively. I've done some research and decided that their diet may have been a contributing factor (although they were both white and people have told us that they are more succeptable to tumours - don't know what that information is based on though.) and I'm going to do my best to make sure we don't loose this boxer at such a tender age, so he gets plenty of fresh chicken legs, necks and anything else I can find lurking at the bottom of the freezer that we're not likely to eat.

Gotta love these crazy canines - they're just the best dogs in the world :)
