Common traits

My family has had boxers for years. I have a 10-month old fawn now. Common traits I've witnessed:

- Gas
- Kidney beaning
- Destroying brooms
- Siiiigghhing
- Never snapping at a treat but gently pulling it into their mouths with tongue
- Jumping straight up
- They all think they are lap dogs
- Leaning, on mom's legs, back, whatever
- Hating the cold
- The louder the toy, the better (milk jug full of pebbles, obnoxious squeaky toys, you name it)
- And every morning is the beginning of a fabulous new day!

Commone Traits

Same traits as above. `Tanna loves to run laps for no reason. This is the little girl that goes on a 3 mile jog everyday. I guess she thinks that isn't enough. She NEVER lays on her back though. Woo woo song is her specialty. And she thinks all of us two legers are her personal napkin as well.

Montanna- 14 month old fawn female, docked and floppy
Jasmine- 3 year old Calico female, boss of the house

traits

This is my first time posting..when I read everyone's responses to the common Boxer traits, I just had to join in!
My Riley is 1 1/2...he loves to jump straight up in the air, he always "chases" his leash when we go for walks. My favorite is when he lays in the frog position, we call him "Frog Boy"! He also loves to bite my husband's ears! When they are playing on the bed, Riley will jump on top of him and nibble his ears, and sometimes his chin or nose. It's very cute!
The running 100 miles an hour through the yard is hilarious! We were beginning to think he was a little crazy until we read about everyone else's cutie pies!

Thank you for filling me in on the kidney beaning. My little queen does that all the time, we call it the C postion. the race around the yard we call boxer laps. I also have a golden retreiver thet acts alot like a boxer. Our queen (ms. badu) likes to tree squirrels. she keeps them there for hours. She is gasier the my husband and my two boys. The woo woo song is an every day treat for us. She also jumps strait up on our 6ft. privacy fence. if she sees or hears anything she is intrested in she will hop right over. She is also a great guard dog. Barks at everything and everybody. Even the kids she sees walking to school every morning. Did I say she is a great bed hog to.

Ms. Badu 2yr. old flashy brindle floopy ears, and docked tail

kato's family

Boxer Pal
Our Kato has alllllllllllllllllll those traits. We got him @ the age of 6 months and we'd never had a boxer before. When he started the whole 100 mph laps during our walks and play time, I thought there was something wrong with him... until the vet told us that it was a common boxer trait! lol Some of the other things he likes to do:

- kidney beaning

- GAS!!! LOL

- lovvvvvvvves to play tug o' war w/ his leash during walks

- loves to chase toys... the louder the better and he'll even try to chew the "squeaker" out of the toy

- jumps sooooo high in the air @ the first sound of car keys clinging... he lovvvvvvvvvvves to ride ANYWHERE... even if it's just around the house! lol

- jumps when he wants to go outside to play

- great @ the whole "makin' us feel guilty" w/ that face act

- everybody (visitors included) becomes his personal napkin

- the way he laps up water is hilarious... he could wake the dead!!

- snoring/snorting

- the woo woo-ing is sooooooo classic

- the way he lays his face on everything like it's just too heavy to carry around!

- hogs the bed, pillows and blanket!

- goes in circles on his bed, using his paws to ruffle HIS blanket and sheets... that is hilarious!

- uses his paws like a cat

- growls @ the pictures of other boxers (i.e. calendar/book pictures) toooo funny!!

- loves to chase birds, squirrels, spiders, and ants

Our Kato is such a joy and I wouldn't trade him for anything!! He's a 2 (soon to be 3) year old black-masked Brindle, neutered, and uncropped ears.

:) I agree with all the traits, We call the woo-woo mouth "O" mouth. All of our boxers have done this too, i just love them. The other thing that I love is when they look at you out of the corner of their eye without moving their head. I am new to this page and my good news I can't wait to share is that Saturday, I will be a new mother to a boxer we rescued. His name is Matisse. I have had two others and I have lost both of them. Here's to all of you boxer lover's!!!!!

Muggsy

Boxer Pal
It appears that most all Boxers have some of the same traits.

Muggsy, also called "Bug" for short, will chase anything that flies, including butterflys, flys and the ultimate arch enemy, the squirrels.

There is nothing better than a Boxer, our second one. Each has a distinct yet similiar personality.

As far as the head thing, yea, Muggsy does the same thing, lays his head in your hand when tired.

We recently took him to South Carolina by car and used the Net to find a hotel that was "dog friendly". I must say that the Ramada was just super and would recommend this chain to anyone traveling and wanting to have their "friend" with them.

Oh, I've been told that the gas thing gets a little better after they are off the puppy food that is high in calories. I'm not sure if I beleive that or not, waiting for Mugs to reach maturity (if he ever does)

A question: After neutering, is it common for the male Boxers to continue to squat to urinate? I'ts not bothering Muggsy, but you know, it's a guy thing and all the other dogs in the park are urinating on trees, bushes and lots of neat things! I'd hate for Mugs to miss out on this unique opportunity!
