I just caught this post, I am so sorry to hear about Kadie! That is good that it can be dealt with though, and you sound like you are doing what is best! Slobber Baby is right, just do your research and make an informed decision that you think is best for lil' Kadie!

Good luck and we are hoping for a speedy recovery! :)

I just wanted to reiterate that you are the only one who can decide what is best based on the information you have. Vets are always going to recommend the traditional thing, that's what vets do, medicine and illness, not so much about wellness. More natural approaches to things are rarely recommended as a course of action because most of them just don't study that kind of thing. That being said, there is no reason why she shouldn't be able to be cured because she is white, for that reason alone. My white boy has never had skin problems. I don't see that as being the reason she won't heal. One thing about the Missing Link, it can't hurt her if you try it and while the vet says it isn't needed, it won't hurt to try, if that is something you choose to do. The dips really are hard on the dogs, and it may help give her a boost if she is going to be going through the dips. This is just my opinion though, and if it were me I'd try it.

I wish you the best of luck and let us know how things are going. Sure hope she gets better soon, no matter what decision you ultimately make. You can only do the best you can do with the information you have and after researching it you will do what you think it best.

Get well soon Kadie!

It's definitely not a horrible food, but personally I don't like the fact of so many grains being in the first few ingredients, especially for a "white dog with a predisposition for skin problems" which is what your vet bacially said. It's a lot of filler with 4 grains in the first six ingredients. That's just my feeling on it for me though. I feed Chicken Soup, same as you were feeding before. It hasn't caused skin problems or immunity problems in either of my dogs, just for information's sake. I'm sure the Wysong will be fine, but if it were me I would still give the Missing Link. I give it to mine now, even with a good quality food. They don't need it for a specific purpose but it's good for them. It won't hurt her to use it if you decide to and may help her.

In researching dog foods just now, I found a post on another site from someone who said they were told Canidae was good for Boxers. They didn't elaborate, but it caused me to search more and I found this testimonial from a Boxer owner about Canidae.

--------------------------------------------------
Well, you've made a believer out of a real skeptic!!!!
I have raised Boxers for years and have tried many kinds of diets, but yours has far out-performed the rest. I began my crew on Canidae and the Snap Biscuits about one month ago, slowly weaning them on to avoid stomach upset. They are now completely weaned off their old food and onto Canidae. Within two weeks of starting, before even complete weaning had taken place, their coats were thicker, shinier and softer. They no longer have any doggie odor of any kind and their breath is sweeter, all the time. I am so very impressed that I cannot express my satisfaction clearly enough. One of my girls is white and she has lots of severe skin allergies. No more scratching or chewing at her feet. Three of them have seasonal flank alopecia-the hair is growing back and filling in spots that were completely bald before we started the Canidae. Keep up the good work.

Thanks,
Claire

Just thought I'd share this with you guys, especially since some of us are battling mange.

Canidae's definitely a good kibble, as Chicken Soup is. In fact, I switched Tae from CS to Canidae around the time she was diagnosed with mange a year ago. Sadly, the Canidae with Missing Link added didn't cure Tae's mange. I was bummed. The good news was the mites on Tae were dead adult mites. The bad news was there were mites. That's why we started ivermectin.

well

i talked to the kennel here my dog tranier my breeder and a few other breeders that i have talked to and they all seem to think i should do another dip in 14 days then after that when the vet wants to do another 14 days try to see if we can't wait 21 days and see how she looks.

also about the food they all say its a lot better then chicken soup is because its a human grade good and not processed dog food that zaps all the nutritions out of it like the chicken soup does.

Chicken soup is also human grade food. But I don't know how they process it so I can't say anything about that aspect of it. I am just not big on giving my dogs grain because grain is very often an allergen to many dogs and is a filler when used in large quantities. I am sure the Wysong is fine food and won't be a problem. If it works well for her then I think it's up to you to decide. I think it's great you are doing so much research so you can make a decision you feel good about. That, and Kadie getting better, is what is most important. If you feel it is the right thing to do then you should definitely do it. Everyone has different ideas about what they feel is the best thing to do but you are doing exactly what I would do, get all the information possible and make the best decision I can. I really hope it works and she gets better soon. It's always hard when something is wrong and we can't instantly fix it. Good luck!
