I hope everything works out for Kadie. I don't know much about mange except what I've learned here but I would totally be against the toxins that the dips expose the dogs to.
I would switch vets immediately, ask friends for references and look into the other treatments first... JMO.
Good luck and keep us posted definitely :)

well

the spot on kadies site is prob about 4 inchies where hairloss is and the mange it would prob take about 4or5 quaters to cover it and i call the vets and told them (i looked in the yellow pages and called them) they said the dips are fine but i need to get her on wysong(same as my vet did) they said if it was just a small patch i could so something different but sence there are a few and one really big one i should just go ahead and do the dips and the food switch. one vet did say that he give vitaman A shots every 10 days for 3 months and also would sell me a Amitaz soulation to use every 10 days on the spots and also feed they wysong.

im so confused

Here are some pics of how bad Grace's mange got. We worked on boosting her immune system and some tea tree oil baths. We did not have her dipped or use ivermectin.

I am sorry you guys have to deal with this. Poor Kadie. Sending tons of <<<<healing vibes>>>> and great big ((((HUGS)))).

As far as the dips, I am no expert but I have heard that you would want to avoid it at all costs and it should only be used as a last resort.

Good luck ((((more hugs)))) and please keep us posted!!

Well you need to do what you feel is best, but like the others I would use the dips as my last resort after trying absolutely everything else. Everyone knows you have your girl's best interests at heart. I would try the shampoos, oils, immune systems boost with something like missing link or solid gold added to the food. I would feed fish oil capsules and diet. My next step would be the ivermectin orally and my last resort would be the dips.

Your vet is wrong about the white immune system. Maybe she just truly beleives what she is saying but it's just not true. My boy is white and has never had a sick day in his life. He is much much healthier than my brindle girl who has tons of health problems. He doesn't have allergies. He doesn't have hair coat problems. He is now almost two and a half and I've had him since 8 weeks old. They are as suceptible as all boxers to inherent boxer problems, but not moreso because they are white. I hope she gets better.

I posted a new thread yesterday about my dog, Kronk's, d-mange and what a dork I apparently have for a vet. I liked him and trusted him every time I've seen him, up until this issue with the mange. My point being, don't trust your vet just because you like him (or her). He may have been very knowledgable and helpful with other issues you've had with your pets, but that doesn't mean he's steering you the right way this time.

I believe Mitaban dips are the most common course of treatment that vets prescribe, so I'm not at all surprised. But that doesn't make it the best treatment. I let my vet do a dip on my boy the day I found out he had d-mange because I didn't know any better. After some research, I learned how toxic the dips were and how dangerous it is to both the animal and the people giving it.

I just went back to the vet yesterday to have some stiches removed and had to have an unpleasant conversation about the dips. He tried to assure me that ... "Mitaban dips are the "only" treatment for demodectic mange. Boosting the immune system is a waste of time because you have to kill the mites. Ivermectin kind of pointless because you have to kill the mites topically (with the dips)". It was obvious I wasn't going to get anywhere with him and will, therefore, be searching for a new vet. At least your vet encouraged you to boost the immune system. Mine wouldn't even do THAT!!!

There are different philosophies of medecine out there, both for pets and for people. Just as I try to avoid harsh chemicals and treatments for myself and my kids, I do the same for my pets. The body has an amazing ability to heal itself if given the proper nutirition, etc. I have been very encouraged by reading all the posts here about people who have been through this. I wish I would have done it two weeks ago when I first found out he had it!

she is at the vet now getting her first dip, would it be ok to let her do one? then today i will call around to different vets offices?

I just noticed you are in Michigan, perhaps you could call MMBR (mid-michigan boxer rescue) for a vet recommendation, i am sure that they have dealt with d-mange before and have vets that are at least better experienced with boxers and d-mange. :) several members on here are part of that rescue :)

well she said whites have a lower immune system then the other boxers

The very fact that your vet would make a statement like this would be enough for me to go and find another vet immediately and not to follow his advise this vet clearly doesn't know boxers

well

i just went and picked kadie up from the vet, i talked to her about the missing link about the dips and that goodole stuff and about different things she said the missing link is really good if you are using regular food and stuff but this wysong doesn't need it she said noremal foods have a lot of the nutritions zaped out of them when they are processed but this wysong is made a special way so its not needed then she said i can try the other ways if i want but kadies mange is generalized and she highly recomends the dips because it can spread in spots i can't see. she said not to worrie about the dips she has treated a lot of D mange but once it is considered generalized she likes the dips so it can be taken car of.

i told her about the white boxer and she said she just knows that white boxers are more suceptial to skin probs and thats what has her worried.

errr.... im still confused, she said she would like me to go back in 14 days.

is there a chance this won't get cured???? she said she is worried because she is a white boxer.
