You found and did what!?

Well heres the story: DH came home and went out on the deck to grill dinner. Im inside and hear him say "You HAVE to come see what YOUR dogs did!" I can tell this is something bad, so I walk out prepared only to find.....a snake!!! My two sissy boxers caught and killed a snake!(please keep in mind Im terrified of the things) DH goes out to remove it from the yard, and when he comes back I have many questions for him. #1 what in the heck is that doing in my yard!!!!!???? Well we are now promptly moving the wood pile somewhere else, cutting the grass shorter, and putting up some snake proof stuff outside the fence line. SO now I get to watch and make sure the two dont try to sneak a snake inside the house (Im sure you can sympathize with me) Life's never boring with a boxer.

2 yrs ago I was walking Atlas in our yard when I thought I stepped on a limb. When I looked down I seen it was a snake and it had wrapped around my leg. I let out a big scream and ran for the house screaming all of the way. My DH ran out of the house. He thought I was hurt. I dont like snakes either.

Mindy and I saw a snake while we were in the park the other day, it was curled up by the creek where I let her swim. She didn't seem to notice it, which is good b/c I am sure she would had been very interested.

I actually have terrible nightmares about snakes, even if I just see one on tv. I was scared to sleep after seeing one in real life (I never have before).

You're just like me! I can't stand SNAKES! I've not seen Chief around a snake yet. But Sam's legs tremble as much as mine do!

Ok, snakes don't bother me, I come face to face with them when I garden, but.....RATS.....
After the hurricanes in 2004, the canal by our house flooded and drove rats into our neighborhood. We had them in our attic, they were getting in by climbing up our a/c unit condenser hose and squeezing in through a hole in the soffett, we fixed that really fast. My husband is a Mgr of pest control company and we immediately baited the attic. Let me tell you there is nothing like sitting and watching Lost, then all of a sudden, you hear a snap of a trap and the rat screeching and flopping around. Anyway back to my story. The rats still liked to hang in our backyard around the bird feeder. One night I let Minx and Blaze out and I saw a rat running down the bird feeder pole, I gasped. Blaze saw him too, as the rat ran down the feeder pole and jumped off Blaze caught him in his mouth mid air and killed him instantly. I was speechless. Jeff - my hubby went out and bagged the rat up and Blaze got a really good teeth brushing and a bunches of treats to clean out that mouth. Yuck!
Oh and the rats are all gone, thank goodness!

Copperheads!

Our rental house was a complete snake den. The ivy and vines had grown up to the edge of the yard. One evening I had let Bossk out while I brushed my teeth. Now that I know what it was, I realized later I could hear the snake hissing. Anyway, stupid me didn't go see what all the barking was about. We always had some kind of animal out there at that time of the evening. Opossums, raccoons, cats. I just thought he was barking at them. He got it between the toes, on his shoulder blade and on his muzzle.

I never saw the snake so I didn't know what was going on, but he was sitting at the top of the steps acting odd. (Bossk was only out long enough for me to wash my face and brush my teeth. seriously. that snake was not playing around! ) Bossk was panting and I couldn't figure out what had happened. I noticed a small puncure wound on his shoulder blade, so I called a vet and asked him. He confirmed it was probably a snake. It took about ten minutes for him to start swelling. I rushed Bossk to the vet and after a night with the vet and fluids, he was good.

Well, a year later, Lucas went one on one with a copperhead. It got him in the neck. By the time he was at the vet he looked like he had swallowed a tennis ball and it had gotten stuck. He was treated and was okay. A few weeks later I saw a copperhead so I knew then we had them and our vet didn't help my feelings any when he said, "well when you got one copperhead you got a mess of 'em."

Bossk learned a lesson and anytime he saw a snake he would run up to us and sit and shake. Lucas did not. He runs up to them and barks. I'm so happy we have moved now. My son and I were outside playing in the exact place Bossk versed the snake 20 minutes before. I was always scared to death Ben would get bitten. Dogs do much better with venomous bites than kids do.

A week before we moved out of that house, we had to remove a cabinet and there was a snake skin behind it. I'm soooooooooooo glad I'm not in that house anymore! I'm not scared of harmless snakes, but I am if they will kill me!

I've always heard that if you have a problem with poisonous snakes on your property, a good thing to do was to get some non-poisonous snakes (like King Snakes) and release them in the area. They will kill the poisonous variety.

I can deal with snakes and rats but spiders give me the creepy crawlies all over! We live by a wooded creek area so we get our share of spiders throughout the year and most times, they find their way into our house. One particular year, we had a horrible time with wolf spiders. We thought that Abbi had lost her tennis ball under the kitchen table and was moving the chairs to try and get it. That was until we looked over at her and she had LEGS STICKING OUT OF HER MOUTH!! I about came unglued and told my dh that he needed to take care of that RIGHT NOW. We caught it in a tupperware and put it on the counter to show our apartment mangement what we were dealing with and to show them that we weren't crazy when we told them we had an unusually high amount of spiders in our place. We kept it there until it started moving across the counter!!! So we put it in the sink until the next morning, when we plunked it down on the manager's desk and said that they needed to do something about it. Bwaaahhh...creeps me out to just think about it!
