Why'd you name your boxer that?

Buck was a random name off the top of my head and it just sorta stuck.

Shadow was adopted from somebody who couldn't keep her and that was her name that they gave her.

We named our boy Jigsaw after the flashy white markings that resemmble a "jigsaw" puzzle piece. His father is named Nike because he has a white "nike swoosh" on his neck.

I ended up with Rugby because... well anyone thats ever seen a rugby match and then watched him playing would see the resemblance immediately. Everything this little guy does is "full contact"

Frazier was named for Joe Frazier-the gentleman boxer. Nysa means "new beginning" a name we picked in honor of her sister gone to the bridge who was Ailis Girl, which is Gaelic for "noble"-all my guys have lived up to thier names and made me proud!

Boxer names

I named my boxer Greta, after the first boxer I fell in love with when I was 10 years old. My uncle named her after the movie star. They were star's in all ways. Love and miss my sweet Greta's. The next boxer, who knows, have to meet them first.

We named our's Bella for 2 reasons. When I was in high school I used to babysit for a family that had a doberman/sheperd mix named Bella and she was just a wonderful dog. I also wanted a different name. I searched websites and found a list of the 60 most popular dog names in the country and made sure I didn't pick anything from the list. The irony is since we got her and named her, I am seeing and hearing the name Bella everywhere!

We've always worked on the principle that the dogs almost name themselves - you think of loads, and suddenly there's one just right.

We were bringing our current two home from the breeders and wanted names which were not typical doggie ones, adn which also had the right amount of style & feel for two dogs who are fun, soooo human, and look so regal when they are sitting looking down their noses at you. Henry's name came first, but we kept thinking of Minnie for the girl but knew it wasn't quite right as our last boxer was Winnie - a bit too similar. Then, just as we got home someone said "Millie" and that was it!

All of mine have names by previous owners or rescues/foster parents. I figured, why mess with a good thing if they come when you call them?

My husband and I were going back and forth on a couple of names. Then, a friend of mine at work got a puppy and I was telling my husband about this new puppy but mis-stated the name as Moxie. We both like it but of course thought it was taken. When I found out her name was actually Mozie, I looked up Moxie in the dictionary (you never want to use a name before you find out if there is any meaning behind it!!!)

It ended up being perfect for a boxer because it means "vigor, pep, the ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage."
