Great topic!
We went to our local Boxer Rescue to look at a white boxer named Roscoe. He was very playful, but too much so. When we walked him around the block, he would leap and bounce and play tug of war with the leash. He was a sweetheart, but I thought he was going to be too much to handle. Then "Buddy" was brought out to us. Ten months old and gorgeous; brindle & perfect flash markings. As we walked him around the block, we couldn't get over how civilized he was. He walked beautifully, and so dignified. He was so composed even though all the other dogs were barking like mad, he just sat there regally. But what really sold us is he turned to look at us and just smiled this huge grin that let us know he was going to be a bunch of fun, too. We've never regretted it and have always wondered who could have possibly given up this gorgeous boy. We renamed him Trooper Thorn and waited about four months before we started looking for a brother for him.
We went to see a litter of boxers that a friend had told us about. Of the four pups, three were pretty shy and nervous. One of them, however, was trotting around exploring the back yard, tail wagging like mad and just having a great time. We loved his adventurous spirit, and when we introduced the puppy to Trooper Thorn, it was love at first sight. I have never seen two dogs bond so quickly and closely. We took him home, 8 weeks old, named him BeBop, and the two of them can't bear to be seperated. I even have a picture of them sleeping together, taken on his first night home, where Trooper Thorn has a paw over BeBop like he is hugging his own personal teddy bear.
They have turned into such amazing dogs that I cannot imagine we could have chosen two better boxers... or maybe they just chose us!
