show prospects.. (sorry its long)
When we were deciding on our 2 babies, it wasn't really completely up to us.. since we were hoping to get a show-prospect there were obvious "characteristics" that we and our breeder were looking for. (flash, which we actually wanted, and of course an out-going personality)
Cassius- We had a fairly easy time picking Cassius. There was another couple who also wanted a boy, and the family who owned the dam, was also planning on keeping a pet boy. Everyone was drawn to the 2 flashy boys... We met Cassius at 4wks, instantly we knew we had to have him. He was such a confident little boy... he commanded attention. His conformation for a little 4wk pup was fantastic.. Obviously we had to wait to make sure he was going to be the "pick", as our breeder and her breeder friends were going to make the final deciscion.. and low and behold 4wks later, we were elated to find out that he was going to come home w/ us. Although we were never able to show him in conformation.. thats another story

, (everyone tells us he woulda finished so quickly) we love him so much.. i don't know what we'd do w/out him. :D
Nikki- Now this was a tough one. Not being able to show Cassius, this time around, we really wanted to make sure we were going to get the best show prospect. There were 6 girls out of the litter of 8, we were immediately drawn to our Nikki-baby. BUT she wasn't the "pick"! :( We were torn. The 3 other possible show prospect girls were very good looking, and all had great personality, but Nikki really stood out. She had the darkest brindling out of all the puppies there, she was mischievous, and BOY the attitude on this little spitfire! (she was the 2nd smallest, after the runt.. but she didn't know it) Again, relying on our breeder and her friends, we hoped that she would "turn out" to be the pick, as the weeks wore on.. It took until week 7, where we just decided that we were going to take our chances w/ Nikki, no matter what. Richard had a "feeling" about her, and i already fell in love. So probably going a bit against the decision of mentor, week 8 rolled around and we made the 9hr drive to our breeders, and took her home. :D fortunately, Nikki has grown into quite the little show-girl.. she's slowly growing more and more beautiful everyday, and our breeder agrees, no doubt. We're so happy we took her home and went w/ our gut feeling.. :D (this is actually how our mentor picked the sire to our babies.. she went w/ her gut feeling, even though everyone else thought his brother was going to be the pick... and low and behold, his brother never even finished his CH!) We hope that she follows in her sire's footsteps, and will soon start picking up points towards her Championship. Our baby girl definately keeps us on our toes.. she's a ball-buster, and a trouble maker, a show dog that loves to show, and most of all, she's mommy's little girl lovicon
and that is our story..
