Diesel
I love everyone's stories of naming their babies... and I love the names who embrace that embrace the German heritage or the heritage of the owner--I've never really like the "dog" names. They are our kids, after all!
We got Diesel when he was 9 months old and named Sugar, which was the worst name for him. We met him at his foster mom's house-when we walked in the door, he was sitting like a statue against the wall, and as soon as his foster mom called him, I knelt down, he barrelled toward me, and knocked me over. We decided to name him Diesel about three minutes later. I like human names for dogs, but he was undeniably a Diesel.
For the first year we had him, he acted like he was high on cocaine. He'd run down the hallway full-speed, jump into the air, curl into a ball and body slam you, then take off before you knew what hit you. He'd literally push you off the couch when he wanted to be where you were, and when you'd make him get down, he'd push against you... He was a hellion! Definitely not a Sugar--not that he was mean, and he definitely had his cute moments, but most of the time he was plowing into us and knocking us off the furniture.
Then he turned three and turned into another dog. Now he's a cuddler who will willingly leave his spot on the couch without a hissy fit. Diesel doesn't really seem to fit anymore, but it's his name... along with Deez (obviously), Papa, Weasil, Wiggle Butt, Crazy Fool (when he's at the dog park or running with the horses), and Belly.
Everyone we meet thinks he's the most well-behaved dog in the world... little do they know about the old Diesel!
