Sasha is our white girl and was just the most precious thing when we got her as a baby. Telmar, our fawn, was named that when we got him as a rescue and we get TONS of compliments on name! Have no clue where it came from.
Maximus, our reverse brindle is named after Russell Crowe in Gladiator! He is a total rambunctious baby though that could have easily been named Curious George!!

This is great guys! I am really enjoying reading your stories and they have been very helpful as we go through the "name game" with our own new pup.

Peace

I named my flashy fawn Haji, because he has one brown dot in the middle of a white firld on his forehead. I took the name from a character on the old Johnny Quest cartoon, who was an Indian boy who wore a turban with a gem stone in the middle of the front.

Zoe got her name in a family meeting, this was the only name we all could agree on and being the first girl in the family besides me, I had the last say, so Zoe it is.
Melvin came from a shelter and his name had been changed so many times I didn't have the heart to change it again. The thing is he really looks like a Melvin so why change. It could have been Tedi though he's such a big teddy bear.

Our American boxer Cindy Clawford was partly picked out of the litter because of the moles on her pretty face. She goes by Cindy for short :)

Oscar was named for Oscar de la Hoya by his foster mom. Mali was named for Muhammed Ali by her prior owner. We kept both names because we thought Oscar really looks like an Oscar, and DBF was a fan of Ali in the day and thinks the name is a good one. My only problem is with people who first see her name written and call her Mally (rhymes with rally). I can't stand it. nonoicon

Holly was named after the Flower, and since I got her for Christmas I thought it was a good name for her! Even DH thought so! He did like sasha as well, but we have a friend who's little girl is named that. The breeder gave her the nickname neicy cause she thought she was a lot like her mom who's name is reecy!

The Name Game

Our Bella got her name for several reasons.

Frank and I were married this past June, it's a second marriage for both of us and we have five grown children between us from our respective first marriages, and we don't want any more human babies, thank you!

So, we have Simon our GSP and Gary our cat, both pets I acquired shortly before Frank and I started dating, and I've wanted a puppy for a few years now.

In November we decided together it was time to add to our family, and bringing home the new Boxer Puppy was just like having a baby for us! (I know, we're THOSE kind of people).

Anyhow, Frank is Italian and I am a mix of Italian, Irish, English and Hungarian descent, so we wanted an Italian name. We thought of Sophia, and then at the same time we both said "Bella"!!!

So, that was our name, however, her registered name is our Surname and "Bella The Ball". I thought it was a cute take on words, a play on "Bell OF the Ball", and once I met her, it truly suited her!

So that's how our little punkin girl became Bella!

P.S. That same week Parade magazine had a list of the ten most popular doggie names, and, you guessed it, Bella is one of them, and here we thought we were being SOOOO original...hehehe.

Great Thread!

P.S.S. I absolutely LOVE looking at the pics of all these beautiful Boxers!!!

I probably have the most boring name story. All three of my rescue came with their names and I kept them.

The shelter named Gertie 'Forget Me Not' but her foster mom renamed her Gertie and at 10 years old, it couldn't have been a better fit.

Snubby's real name was Snubnose given by her original owners. I couldn't bear to change it even though it didn't fit her at all. We called her Snub-a-love-a-gus most of the time anyway, which fit.

Mindy was surrendered to the shelter with the name Blanca (she is white). But the day the shelter called the rescue saying they had an hour to get her before she was euthanized (my poor girl) the little neighbor girls to our rescue contact were selling lemonade to raise money for the rescue. The contact promised them they could name her since they worked hard that day raising money. They chose Mindy, I couldn't ever change that name.

Layla

I'm a huge Eric Clapton fan. I think Layla is one of the greatest songs. It is also a book about a great love story. When we adopted our boxer, my daughter thought it was the perfect name for her. She has certainly turned out to be one of the great loves of my life. Perfect
