I don't know if the female has been registered, I know my friends male is not, but he said he can just hasn’t yet.
I’m also not sure if the breeder is going to give me any kind of paper work, I was wondering how do I go about registering my baby or can I? I know its kind of a backyard breeding,
It's a lot a backyard breeding, but that's not the subject of this thread so I'll leave it at that. If both parents are not registered, the puppy cannot be registered. (This is the AKC and UKC and Canadian KC - you could register the pup with one of the puppmill registries, the Continental KC or American Pet Registry or one of the countless others.)
I was under the impression you can register your white with the AKC just not breed or show them and they must be fixed so it is a "Limited" registration. That is of course providing he comes from proven background, etc. and that the litter was reported to the AKC.
Again, here are the facts.
The American Boxer Club prohibits the sale or registration (of any kind) - or inclusion in the litter count - of white Boxers.
The American Kennel Club allows the registration (of any kind) of white Boxers, provided the litter was registered and the white Boxer was included in the litter count. (If it was not, you can get an ILP number after the dog is spayed/neutered and compete in all AKC events except conformation.)
The American Boxer Club also prohibits the breeding of white Boxers. The AKC doesn't care.
The Boxer standard lists dogs with more than 1/3 white markings as a disqualification, so white Boxers cannot compete in conformation shows per both the ABC and the AKC.
The number of white Boxers born is closer to 20%.
I don't know if mine is deaf or not and personally I don't mind eiather way but some people do and too many whites end up in shelters once it's found out they are deaf. They generally cost less as they cannot be bred or shown. You can use them in agility classes though, there are no rules against that.
You cannot compete with a deaf dog in AKC events, agility included. I'm not sure about the other agility organizations.
My two cents says the ABC is just asking white puppies to be killed by unscrupulous breeders with the whole *don't sell, don't register thing*
No, they were doing that when breeders weren't allowed to *place* white Boxers, either. Now, they are just asking members not to sell or register them.
They could simply make a stipulation that all white boxers must be spayed or neutered to be registered.
In a sense, they already have made that stipulation - a dog must be spayed/neutered to obtain an ILP, and there is nothing a registered spayed/neutered dog can do that an ILPed dog can't. (Except compete in some Veterans or Stud Dog/Brood Bitch conformation classes, which whites are ineligible for anyway.)
I can fully understand if they don't want them to be bred but to make it wrong to sell or register them to me is just stupid.
I agree that whites should be allowed to be sold and registered in Limited registration with a spay/neuter contract. However, you won't further your cause much by calling the ABC 'idiotic' or 'stupid.'
