Wow, I guess I should have done more research because I paid $350.00 for my white boy.

I don't understand the difference in price for pets since they are all good no mattter what the color.

The seller said that the white boxer was most sought after. They did put a picture of the pups on the web and he is really cute.

The American Boxer Club Code of Ethics prohibits the sale and registration of white Boxers. The ABC is the National Breed Club, the ones in charge of maintaining the breed for future generations.

The American Kennel Club will allow you to register a white Boxer - they don't care about the Code of Ethic in this regard, they are simply a registry body. (BTW, all white Boxers are either fawn or brindle, but to register them as either would be incorrect. If they are going to be registered, they should be registered as white.)

While I do support a change in the Code of Ethics, until it happens I do not support the registration of white Boxers. The fact that this breeder will register a white, in spite of the CoE - and the fact that they are not only charging for it, but charging *more* because it is 'sought after,' would make me run the other way.

Since we are on the subject...

On may11th I get my baby girl, the breeder is a police officer for the city I live in, and bred his pure bred brindle boxer with my best friends purebred fawn male.

The owner of the female has breeded a few times and is simi-expeariances. His best friend is a vet and has done it many times and is in the field, all the pups have been checked out and are in great health.

I don't know if the female has been registered, I know my friends male is not, but he said he can just hasn’t yet.

I’m also not sure if the breeder is going to give me any kind of paper work, I was wondering how do I go about registering my baby or can I? I know its kind of a backyard breeding, but I know both people well, and have been around both parents (the dogs), and all pups and see and he’s had them checked, etc so I know they are good, so i'm not worried about the health issues. Just curious what I need to do or any info you could fill me in on. I know there are probably many threads on he of the same subject but if you can fill me in briefly I’d be nice.

Thanks :)

P.S The pup Im getting is a female black mask, fawn, with white toes :)

I was under the impression you can register your white with the AKC just not breed or show them and they must be fixed so it is a "Limited" registration. That is of course providing he comes from proven background, etc. and that the litter was reported to the AKC. At least from the info I read. I have a 4 week old white male (still with the breeder). My breeder also told me that she had two families really wanting whites but gave me first pick and I took him instead so they are sought after but I see no reason why they should cost more than the others. And make sure they get hearing tested, especially if you plan on paying extra money for one. I don't know if mine is deaf or not and personally I don't mind eiather way but some people do and too many whites end up in shelters once it's found out they are deaf. They generally cost less as they cannot be bred or shown. You can use them in agility classes though, there are no rules against that. I would be wary ifshe is trying to charge you ectra because he's "rare" though. Not sure how she worded it to you. Whites are not rare. 25% of all boxers born are whites. Just passing along some info I learned while researching white boxers. Might not all be accurate but not everything you find on the net is=)

P.S. My two cents says the ABC is just asking white puppies to be killed by unscrupulous breeders with the whole *don't sell, don't register thing* They could simply make a stipulation that all white boxers must be spayed or neutered to be registered. They are still purebred dogs even if they aren't breeding stock and I think they should be recognized as so. It's like killing your child because it was born with the wrong color hair and I will never agree with such an idiotic policy. I can fully understand if they don't want them to be bred but to make it wrong to sell or register them to me is just stupid. But then again that's only my take on it=)

It's a lot a backyard breeding, but that's not the subject of this thread so I'll leave it at that. If both parents are not registered, the puppy cannot be registered. (This is the AKC and UKC and Canadian KC - you could register the pup with one of the puppmill registries, the Continental KC or American Pet Registry or one of the countless others.)

I was under the impression you can register your white with the AKC just not breed or show them and they must be fixed so it is a "Limited" registration. That is of course providing he comes from proven background, etc. and that the litter was reported to the AKC.

Again, here are the facts.

The American Boxer Club prohibits the sale or registration (of any kind) - or inclusion in the litter count - of white Boxers.

The American Kennel Club allows the registration (of any kind) of white Boxers, provided the litter was registered and the white Boxer was included in the litter count. (If it was not, you can get an ILP number after the dog is spayed/neutered and compete in all AKC events except conformation.)

The American Boxer Club also prohibits the breeding of white Boxers. The AKC doesn't care.

The Boxer standard lists dogs with more than 1/3 white markings as a disqualification, so white Boxers cannot compete in conformation shows per both the ABC and the AKC.

The number of white Boxers born is closer to 20%.

I don't know if mine is deaf or not and personally I don't mind eiather way but some people do and too many whites end up in shelters once it's found out they are deaf. They generally cost less as they cannot be bred or shown. You can use them in agility classes though, there are no rules against that.

You cannot compete with a deaf dog in AKC events, agility included. I'm not sure about the other agility organizations.

My two cents says the ABC is just asking white puppies to be killed by unscrupulous breeders with the whole *don't sell, don't register thing*

No, they were doing that when breeders weren't allowed to *place* white Boxers, either. Now, they are just asking members not to sell or register them.

They could simply make a stipulation that all white boxers must be spayed or neutered to be registered.

In a sense, they already have made that stipulation - a dog must be spayed/neutered to obtain an ILP, and there is nothing a registered spayed/neutered dog can do that an ILPed dog can't. (Except compete in some Veterans or Stud Dog/Brood Bitch conformation classes, which whites are ineligible for anyway.)

I can fully understand if they don't want them to be bred but to make it wrong to sell or register them to me is just stupid.

I agree that whites should be allowed to be sold and registered in Limited registration with a spay/neuter contract. However, you won't further your cause much by calling the ABC 'idiotic' or 'stupid.' ;)

Ahh thanks for the information on the breed registering. It's it more thorough that I had been able to find on the net and more easily explained.

My wording was poor when I spoke about the deaf boxers and showing. Those two aspects were not supposed to be together. I was just mentioning the deaf part so that if she was interested in getting a white to make sure it is hearing tested. I ran my sentences together there=) But again thanks for the clarification.
I read about the 25% on several different websites and books so I was going on that information. Even still 20% doesn't make them a rare thing. Thats 1 out of 5 puppies born.

As far as the whites being able to be placed and not sold I still feel that some breeders (not the good ones of course, am more referring to people who don't really care about the dogs and only want money) kill the pups as I have read quite a bit of information on that, perhaps it is not accurate. I am only going by what I have read on the net as I am new to boxers. People who are only in it for the money don't seem to care about raising a puppy they don't get any profit from. This only refers to the ABC not allowing them to be sold. I am a bit prejudiced as far as that goes though because I have a white and the thought of someone killing him because he was the wrong color upsets me. I am glad i bought from a good breeder who wouldn't do that but there are a lot of breeders out there who aren't good breeders.

As for my last comment about the idiotic and stupid, that was not for the ABC in general, but I stand by my statement on THAT particular aspect of it. I still feel that way but like I said, that was just my personal opinion and don't expect anyone to share it=) It just hits me close to home because of my boy and when I see him I get angry at the thought of someone hurting him for being born white because he can't be registered or sold (according to the ABC). Some people ARE that horrible. Thankfully not most. Probably a poor choice of words but what's said is said=)

white registration

Obviously, I have a white baby and she is AKC registered. She has no fawn or brindle spotas and was registered color code 199 which is white. I didn't pay any more for her than what she was asking for her brindle littermates, but my preference was white. I don't see why they shouldn't be registered like the other colors, i've found that there are actually a lot of white pups born, sadly, they are often culled at birth. Lizzie is every drop of blood a boxer and deserves the same acknowledgement as her "colored siblings."

another idea...

I have found interesting info about white boxers, their colored counterparts and genetics on a site www.worldwideboxer.com I found it immensely helpful in understanding how the white boxer came about and it disspelled a lot of ideas put in my head by those finding white boxers "sickly" or "problematic." If anyone is interested in forming their own opinion, it might be another place to look for things to consider. Lizzie will not be bred, by the way, she is my pet and will be spayed. I personally don't particularly care what the ABC says about what color is acceptable or sellable. My feeeling is if the white ones were free, they might be taken by owners who couldn't afford the colored ones and maybe not cared for in the proper way. I guess pricing of white boxers should be like pricing of blue great danes or white bull dogs...it's supply and demand.... a breeder who wishes to disregard the ABC's opinion could charge more...why not, I suppose?

"puppymill" registries

A gentlemen I know just made what I considered to be a HUGE mistake. He bought an almost all white Boxer from a chain pet store for $1000.00. Personally I'm a fan of adoption but if I wanted another puppy it certainly wouldn't come from a pet store because I believe most are from puppy mills. I know little of AKC registration but the store said the parents were both registered and the pup could be as well. There was also another registration form in with his paperwork and I believe it was from the American Pet Registry. The doge is a done deal now so he'd like to be able to track it's ancestry accurately. Any tips or info on these other registries or identifying whether or not this is a puppy mill dog would be appreciated.
