Amalfi Coast, Italy
A few years ago I studied in Italy for a summer and we only had class four days a week, so we spent the remainder traveling around the country. Our last trip was to the Amalfi Coast, and we stayed just above Amalfi in a little town called Ravello.
When we arrived it was dark, but even as we stood at the edge of the cliff where our hotel was, we could see how breathtakingly beautiful this place was. The water is crystal clear and the moutainsides are covered with lemon groves (This is where they make lemoncino, the lemon-flavored liqueur) The buildings are all stacked stone and the people so wonderful. We were the only Americans there, and when one of us would go down to the corner shop without the others, the people would ask, 'Where are your friends?' That Sunday, we saw a wedding party leaving the church, with the men all in their dark suits and the women in white lace.
This is the only place I have ever visited where I literally cried it was so beautiful. We took a ferry to Capri, which I also loved. It made me feel like Jackie Kennedy!! Rent 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' with Jude Law, Gwenyth Paltrow and Matt Damon for a look!!
