I have hardwood floors, but they have not been refinished in a while so I'm not sure the damage a boxer would cause on newly redone floors. I am going to get mine refinished soon so I am interested to see other people's opions on this as well.
I think the floors would be ok, but your boxers might not like them unless you have some kind of rugs down. They can be very slippery when your boxer has it's burns.
For preventing the scratching of the floors, you may want to look into something like softpaws.
I had cats for a while because I didn't have the means to get a dog, and they were great for protecting everything from their claws without having to do something as drastic as declawing them. Then they went and came out for them with dogs!
My house was built in 1910 and I have all the original wood floors exposed. I made sure they had plenty of protectant coating on them. They are easy to clean (especially when Dante tracks stuff in....or accidents). I havent noticed any scratches at all. I also keep Dante's nails trimmed, so they dont get long enough to do alot of damage.
My mom just put top of the line (expensive wood and very thick) hardwood floors in her house and my boxers from running and playing in her house scratched it up badly because of their thick nails (even though their nails were short) so she had to have it refinished. Now when they come over, she lays blankets and rugs all over the place so they won't scratch it up. So, I would say tile would be a better bet if you don't want your floors all scratched up. Maybe because its new she notices it more
We have ceramic tile floors, and they can't put a dent in them! Of course, they do go spinning out of control like a NASCAR race sometimes when they burn, just be sure to get out of there way!
I ws hoping to do the same with my floor in the near future too. I am also wondering about the same issues. I don't know if the faux wood floors would be any better, like the flooring along the lines of pergo and so on.
We have hardwood floors in our house and by boxers have scratched them up pretty good we will have to refinish them one day but they will just scratch them up again, you can't tell at night and really when the sun shines on them they didn't scratch all the way to the wood just the lacquer.
