someone gave me a great idea with regards to wood floors. a friend on mine trained her boxers to wear socks. she buys them in the baby department and she says that she doesn't have any scratches when her babies wear the socks. the only draw back is they loose thier footing. she does occasionaly find baby socks with grippers on them.

In my experience pergo or another laminate would be the best way to go. Our house is brand new (1 year old) with natural hardwood and Kobe has not put a scratch in it anywhere. Pergo is supposed to be scratch resistant, and is guaranteed not too. Speak with a flooring specialist about what type of sealant to put over real hardwood. There are so many products out there to prevent scratches. There are also many products out that will easily and effectively repair scratches. If you want hardwood, don't be affraid that the dogs or dog will ruin it. Floors are tough, and you will probably scratch or dent them more with your daily movements. Anything on the floor can be repaired!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have all hardwood floors. We also have a large area rug in the dining room. Drake's favorite place to chew on a bully!

The best floor? I swear it's cement! But that wouldn't look so great would it?

Honestly I think it depends on your dog's nails. Bo's nails were set low on his paw and had to be cut all the time. The house we lived in had carpet and we put in pergo in the kitchen. Boxer burns were like watching Bambi on ice.. esp the time I saw a mouse! He came running full speed to save me and wiped out flat on his tummy. I don't recall any scratches in the Pergo from Bo.
Shaemu's nails are set much higher on his paw and for some reason we don't need to cut them as often. It might be the way he plays outside.
We have some hardwood, but he hasn't scratched it. We have carpet too, and I hate it.. Someone will let him in after he's been out in the rain and it's such a mess!
Whatever you decide, remember not to stress out about it. Dogs are dogs and stuff happens.
