what to do in HOT weather

It gets pretty hot over here also. When ever he gets hot after playing he lays on his "Cooler Bed". Surprisingly, it stays very cool! Here's what it looks like if you want to check it out.

We're in Orange County and it's been in the 100's. Since I'm gone all day they have to stay in the house in the AC. Boo hates the heat and won't even go out. We go for short walks and then go back inside. Both dogs seem like they're ok being loose in the house while we're away so--crossing fingers--I don't feel too guilty while at work.

It also makes me remember why I'm happy for fall to come.

Really Hot Up Here Too!

I know all of you 'fellow' inland Californians are going to laugh at me....
I live up by Lake Arrowhead and it has been really hot here too!!
Not quite the triple digits but low 90's!

I have to say I am really jealous of the planned boxer bash, it sounds like it would be so much fun.

Its hot hot hot here and Crosby just lounges and sleeps all day long. He has moments of activity but really all he does is sleep. As soon as the sun starts sinking he gets hyper, trying to get rid of a whole days energy. He loves the hose and the sprinklers and as soon as the sprinklers turn on in the morning and evening he is soaked and playing in them.

Its sad that he can't come with me when I go out as he loves car rides but I guess he will just have to wait until Sept or Oct.

Hot weather we sure are used to living here in the Imperial Valley, which is located in Southern Cali next to the Mexican Border. Right now it is past 6 o'clock in the evening and it is still 106 and extremely humid. Duke luckily is an indoor dog and gets the luxury of air conditioning. Most of our activities are around 7 o'clock because that is when the sun goes down. We take him for walks. He likes to play witht the sprinklers. I also like to carry a spray bottle so i can spray him with cool water. The other day i bought him a mister that you can connect to the water hose and he really likes that.

I have been enjoying reading the posts.

I think I will get him a kid pool.

Huntington Beach Dog Beach is fun or we would be willing to drive up to Arrowhead on some Sunday. I agree that we need a play date.

I would love to get together. Sounds fun except my baby has no obedience training yet so fair warning. He of course loves to play with other dogs but if I call him to come to me forget about it. So let's plan this. I would love to put a face to the name. By the way I love Roxymyboxy. Too cute!

I'm in Pennsylvania, and although it is not near 100 degrees, it is terribly humid. I walk Mugsy in the mornings and evenings. We've been going to the lake and the beach and he's been getting braver about going in the water. We also hooked up a sprinkler in the back yard. He'll run through it a little and then lay in the cool wet grass. I was thinking of buying a baby pool so he could play and lay in that.


My sister's pug is always hot and panting - even in the winter and in air conditioning. The vet suggested that they buy a cooling bed. he loves it. They even take it in the car for him. I know petsmart carries them and so does Dr. Fosters.

Try this

I was told this by someone at the local dog park (she had a dane), make a cape/coat out of a towel and make your furbaby (if they will let you) wear it. Soak it down with cool water, it allows them to have a walk or even get some play time in during the day, when it starts to dry, give it another soak. I've tried this with Tyson and it works great.. I think he knows he looks a little funny.. but he is more comfortable that is forsure! Sable is unsure of this so far.. and she gets hot very easily, she starts panting just looking out at the sunny outdoors! We will continue to work with her
