Can someone please help me choose a treat that is healthy and that Zoey will like? She is 13 weeks old. There are a lot of different types of treats in the stores, but I want something healthy. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Fruits, veggies, peanut butter. Frozen banana slices, popcicles, frozen yogurt (not ice cream yogurt, regular just frozen in ice cube trays). Wellness and Natural Balance both make great tasting (so Cami says) treats. Old Mother Hubbard does also. You can also do a search here at BW for recipes of items that you can make yourself. Greenies are also a favorite here at my house, they are high in fat however so you have to monitor how often you give them. Nylabone makes many different flavored edible bones in lots of different sizes too.

I agree with all of Cami's suggestions... and I would like to add regular ice cubes (Willis LOVES them and they're practically free). Recently we also found a treat (I can't remember the name) that it is just dried fish, no other ingredients. We break off really small pieces and they are the million dollar treats for Willis... you have his absolute attention when you have one, mostly because they stink! But they must taste good.

I also have made treats, if you go to the recipes forum you will find lots of ideas there. They are generally pretty cheap, easy to make (dogs don't care if they are shaped right or too soft!) and then you can control the ingredients.

I second everything Cami said as well. Please use the search engine for recipes...there are tons of them! I have tried a couple myself and have had success with all! Good Luck!

I prefer to purchase better quality treats (no Snausages, Pupperoni and the like) and have found Natural Balance Duck and Potato Treats to be great. They are a crunchy, square shaped treat. They are a bit expensive at about $8.00 for a fairly small bag, but I feel good feeding them.

Shelby also likes Nutro Lamb and Rice Sticks. These are less expensive and can be cut into small pieces. Good luck with whatever you choose, just be sure to read the ingredient labels. :)

Information on Greenies

Hello. I sincerely hope my post isn't considered too intrusive, and I apologize in advance if it is. I'm posting on behalf of the company that makes Greenies. We like to help pet owners by answering questions and concerns about our product that we see on-line. I just wanted to make one correction about Greenies. Actually, they are low in fat...6-7%. In comparison, most treats are at least 8%, dry dog foods 10% or more and canned foods about 20%.
I hope that information is helpful. To learn more, you can visit www.greenies.com.
Thanks,
Jody Hanson

My dogs absolutely went crazy for these. Take some beef liver or chicken, put on baking pan and turn oven on to lowest setting. Basically what you are doing is dehydrating the liver. It will take anywhere from 10 - 14 hours depending on the thickness of the liver. Once dried out, cut into small pieces and store in airtight container. Totally healthy, no additives and great treat!! Roxanne

There is some kind of treat made of dried chicken strips; they love that. Also greenies every other day and lamb ears to chew on. Plus an assortment of various dog biscuits, the healthier kind like Innova or Natural Balance.
